Went to one of the local conservation clubs gun show today with Dad. Seen some old friends and alot of neat things. Was some moulds and casting gear there even, nothing that I needed or wanted though. Was an Rcbs pro melt that looked to be lightly used for $200.00. A lot of loading dies and sizer dies. A friend found a 7mm lyman mould, gas checks, and sizer die going thru the show. I found a older Redding Scales oil dampened complete with original box and instruction sheet for $10.00. The box listed price was $14.00 originally. A great find today. Now to get some 30 wt motor oil

I have one of those and I can vouch for them as being excellent scales. I use regular gun oil or sewing machine oil in my two scales (I have both a Redding like your and a Wister), covering the wide part of the paddle only while it is in the reservoir. The nut on the end of the scale balance arm is apart of the zero process as well as the level adjustment. Have fun with your scale, I love to use them. james

I have one just like it.
Oil dampened.
Had on non oil dampened one.
Didn't like it at all. Took forever for the beam to stop moving.
Don't used a scale much since I started using the Lyman Autoscale.

You have to learn how to use them. But I still like the beam scales.

I filled it according to instructions with 30 wt motor oil and its swing stops much quicker than my magnetically dampened scales do. For weighting bullets maybe a 50 or 60 wt gear oil to dampen even faster. But then at 350 grn limit it wont weigh most of the bullets I cast LOL.
