    Stop Sign

    Took it upon myself to build a 50 yard line in the back yard and as part of the project, a bullet deflector/target frame. Thought it might be of small interest to a few here, so the pic will pretty much speak for itself. Angle sections are 1", target backer tracks are 1/2" angel iron, deflector is 1/2" AR400. The bucket affair on the backside of the deflector plate will hold sand to reduce the clang of a bullet strike. Total weight is around 100#, Dims are 18" square on the face.



    One of the benefits of handloading and casting is the ease of crafting subsonic loads in a variety of guns. Lacking a suppressor for most that I shoot, I chose to build a baffle box to reduce muzzle blast. It is 5' long, 15" on a side and has 6 baffles. The interior is lined with insulating foam. The hole in the end is 5" diameter and first baffle is 6" past that. A .357 mag can be discharged with the muzzle just past the first interior baffle without need for hearing protection.

    Ok....it was a .357 Mag rifle I referred to. Sounds a bit like "Plonnk". Not quite as loud as my Ex when she was correcting me about something or another. SV .22 LR make kind of a "Plockk" sound. One still hears a bit of muzzle blast when shooting thru the box, but it is not loud. Standing off to the side while another shoots...it is surprisingly muted. The neighbors will not have a clue what they are hearing...assuming their hearing aids are turned on.

    Try lining it with egg crates or a fire proof carpet foam material. this will break up the sound waves and or vibrations really muting the sound level.
