.223 Remington and 69/70 grain bullets.These need to be seated waaaay out of the case to even get close to a short jump.Too far out to suit me.

Now,what if......I use 222 Remington magnum brass? Longer neck,deeper seating of the bullet.

I can't find anything through google,only the reverse of this question.I have not at this point compared load data between the two case/rounds.Or pressure for that matter.

Is this a do-able safe option? Provided the case actually fits,as I have no 222 brass right now to play with.

Go to something like the 80gr Berger. You have a 1:9" twist, take advantage of it.

I had considered that Idaho,but the rifle does like the Sierra hpbt.Might be the cheapest way,just increase bullet weight and get distance.Either way I will not be ready for the clubs bench rest on the 25th.Weather too screwed up here and helping daughter with her house.Painting sux.

222 Mag is a lot longer. Even if you size it in a 223 die, the end of the neck will run into the end of the chamber. That won't make the throat any shorter. For what you want to do, set the barrel back however many turns the throat is long and rechamber with a reamer that makes a throat to suit you.

Or opt to make it a custom chamber and re-chamber it exactly how you want it. If you feel you want more neck and keep the same capacity as a .223 with a bullet seated at the base of the neck, have a reamer cut to match with no free bore and min. lead to match your bullet of choice. As time goes on and the lead gets worn, you'll have the ability to seat longer to match. If you prefer not to mess with trimming your brass based on the .222 Mag then I agree, set back the barrel and re-chamber with a match .223 chamber reamer. Unless you can find one used, a new reamer either way will be the same price, the barrel R/R and the re-chamber will be the same cost.

Could you not just rechamber to 222 Magnum and would not this solve your problem.

Seat normal OAL. It should shoot fine. I 've seen stranger things happen. I've weaned myself away from seating close to the lands and am happy but then I'm not competing. Best, Thomas.
Your 1-9"twist is not fast enough for 80 gr bullets.

Ssavage=easy barrel swap. Prefits are not hard to install.

Not much help for your problem, but mine was a .308 and the action was full length. I did seat the bullets out as far as practical, and it shot quite well out to 1000 yards.
