    Type of Jacketed Bullet

Hey guys, I received about 20 of these in a package of misc 308/311 jacketed some time ago and I'm just getting ready to maybe check them out in my 308, but just wondering if they are other than a typical jacketed pill, as the base is unlike anything I've seen before. Possibly pulled from?...
    Mic out at 308.

    Steel jacket or core, 140g

    Solid copper?

I scraped the jacket and it's copper, cannot figures where the steel is as it's magnetic

Looks like a tracer without the chemical in the base.

Doesn't look deep enough for a tracer. The steel penetrator should be in the nose. The base cavity is probably for lead that wasn't installed.

I was considering cutting it in half to see the makeup, as it's attracted to a magnet, yet the jacket is easily cut with a utility knife, seems very lite for a steel core... Just didn't want to introduce a grinder to it if it's a tracer...

If it was a tracer the base would have the chemical compound visable

If you are cutting a non ferrous metal use a cutoff wheel. A grinding wheel will load up with non ferrous metal, become unstable and MAY EXPLODE!!!

If it was just one of them I would guess it was an FMJ that got through QC without having the base fully formed. But if you have 20 of them that seems unlikely.

If I only had 20, & no source for more I might be inclined to cut them in half and melt out the lead. But I suppose as long as you use data from a bullet of similar length on the conservative end you'll be fine. It is unique.

It's definitely odd, and yes I use cutoff wheels to slice...
I will wear my grinding shield and welding gloves to cut, can't be too safe...
Thanks for the ideas, I'll share photos once I cut it.
