Who makes a 45gr mold for 22 hornet?

My next project is to find a good used 22-hornet.so ill be buying molds and dies too.
anyone have some mfg mold numbers for 40-45 grain molds. Ive been told these 2 are the prefered wieghts,but i dont know.is it also better to buy steel vs aluminum for these little 22 boolits. I think they will be .223 ? but havent verified yet.all suggestions welcome. Im trying to gather as much info as possible.

Which mold maker DOESN'T make a mold for the Hornet?

NOE, Arsenal, and Lyman all have molds for the Hornet. Lyman is going to be steel. NOE will be aluminum or brass, Arsenal will be aluminum. RCBS used to make a mold, it would be steel.

Find the boolit you like then make the decision. Personally I'd go for a 2 cavity steel or 3-4 cavity aluminum.

There wa a group buy on here a few years ago for a 45 grain WFN from NOE. I got mine all plain based because I was interested in replicating rimfire loads. I love that bullet, very good energy transfer with that big meplat, drops fox squirrels DRT.

I think NOE has it as a catalog item now, you might check.

225107 (37 gr FN) works well in my Hornets and 221 Fireballs

I have the Lyman 44 gr. RN for .22 jet, would work for Hornet. You can shoot it in .223 too. Its the 225438. good boolit, shoots great at high velocities.

I have been using a lyman 55gr in my hornet. Usual issue with hornets and heavier bullets is the twist rate. A cast bullet is shorter than a jacketed. So the 55gr is about the same as the 45gr jacketed I use. Powder coated, the 55gr can be driven just as fast as the 45gr jacketed. And it works in my 223.

I use the NOE version




I have all three, in PB, GC, and HP. All three do very well. I think the most versatile is the GC cast with fairly soft lead. Allows for both the high velocity loads as well as hunting. For duplication of the 22LR the PB version does just wonderful and smacks hard!

I have the NOE. Casts great boolits. The Hornet I cast it for loves it.

I used the 225415 (55gr sized .225) in a Savage 219. Worked very well for self-taught 16 year old reloader/bullet caster, cheap 3/4" Weaver scope, 1 to 1.5 groups at 100yds.

I only have experience with the NOE mold. It works fine in my .218bee lever guns.

I also like the NOE moulds. I use the 37 gr. version in my mag fed Hornets but like the 45 gr. WFN (both PB AND GC) in my single shot hornets.

If you can find the earlier version of Lymans 225415, these cast around 48-49grs. Usually can be found in single cavity ideal or 1970 and earlier Lymans. This has proved very acurate in my Hornet. For a custom 45gr. check out Pioneer Products..I had Fred Leeth make up a couple of 45 gr. plain-base & gas-check moulds..he probably still has drawings.
