    Master caster.. new or old..

Is there any difference between a new model and older ones?

Any issues with older ones that would make it worth while to just go new?

What do used ones sell for on average?

    Thanks for your input.

I think older ones did not have mold cooling fans. About all I've noticed from pictures I've come across.

Mine was an old model that i bought used, it didn't have a cooling fan, it doesn't have heating bands, it uses cartridge heaters.

It is also made from cast iron, i believe the newer ones are aluminium.

I don't have a Master Caster I do have a BAllisti-cast Mark IV bullet caster. It has the fan option that I programed the PID to turn it on at a specific temp and off at a different temp. I set it up to do this automatically or by flipping a switch I can turn it on and have it stay on.

I haven't used either but I would make the assumption that the cartridge heaters and band heaters either will work fine and its probably a question of which is cheaper as to what is being used. Aluminum does heat transfer very well heats fast and is easier to machine. I'd have no problem with either setup.

I just purchased a used one from a new member on the site....unpacked it last night. It is a newer version and came with one mold for $650 plus shipping. I think I got a steal, even though I have no use for the mold that came with it.

There are very few used ones out there. I had been looking for a year and was ready to buy a new one as casting season is coming up. But my patience paid off.

There is a member here (I think jroc?) who had an automated one for sale last year. It had the Hatch automation system on it (BTW Hatch is a good guy to deal with if automation is of interest to you). It was a very good setup and looked lightly used but it was more than I could afford. I believe he may still have it if something like that is of interest to you.

Used ones are hard to come by. I got one last year and mine has the fan. Also had a PID included. Don got a really good deal.

I just bought mine last month. It is a newer model with the fan. It came with a 308-210-FB-GC and a blank mold for $950. It was a bit more than I wanted to spend on used, but I didn't have to pay any shipping, so I picked it up.

You also didn't need to wait for it to be built, there was a point that i thought they didn't have enough stock built to fulfill orders.

I paid new + shipping to my house here in the US. I'm just glad I didn't have to pay shipping to Australia. I don't regret my purchase.
