I have done this at a "sand shop" that reworked parts of tanks and other mil-spec vehicle stuff. Left them with open door time - he called when done: you know right sand at the right time boss not around maybe --- $10 and several muffin pans, a couple casting ladles and two dutch ovens with covers were "in the white".

I've used both the vinegar and muriatic acid bath versions. the muriatic certainly does want items to rust quickly after you take items out of it. I was spraying items down with WD40 afterwards with only ok results.
I used a bottle of Coca-Cola and a stainless steel scrub pad on a pan . It seemed to work just fine for getting rid of rust .
Lead .... I don't know .
