    Ideal 358439...

I bought a new to me, but still in excellent condition, Ideal 358439 HP with the original #1 HP pin. It's a vent line model and all the edges are sharp, with the correct screws in mint shape. Been casually looking and waiting for one of these for a while. What I didn't realize originally, but just noticed now, is that it was made on the small SC mould blocks. I have 2 of the larger 429421 HP models, a Lyman and Ideal and both were cut on the DC blocks. For those that have or had this mould, were they always made on the smaller blocks. I was just wondering - Thanks for your help - Bill in MA

Not sure if all were, but I am pretty sure mine is on the small blocks also. Mine casts perfectly, and works well when cast out of the correct alloy.

Your double cavity mold handles should work just fine in the single cavity blocks.

Not too worried about handles, as I have a bunch on hand, just wondering if this was the standard, before Lyman did everything with the large blocks - Thanks again Bill

My Ideal 358439 is old enough to not have vent lines. It is made on the small blocks.

Thanks for the responses. Really just happy to have found a nice one. I do like casting with the small block moulds, obviously takes longer to get a good pile of bullets, but it seems like the older discontinued ones that I like to use, are like hens teeth to find in DC versions....or at least that's my luck and wallet talking! - Thanks Bill

I believe Ideal branded ones were, Lymans were called 358429 HP and may or may not have been cut on DC mold blocks.
