Speed of a lead Boolits

Not sure if I'm in the right department ! But my question is giving the barrel is in great shape 32-40,38-55,44x2.080 . How fast can/should
you go with a lead Boolit?? using 3fff or ????????

38-55, 43 gr 3Fg Goex, 260 gr bullet, 1175fps in my 93 Marlin. I can make it go faster but accuracy falls off. With smokeless, I can make the same bullet launch at 1700fps but feel that the pressure is too high for my black powder proofed rifle.

Had a 500 3" NE once and with 140gr 1½Fg it pushed a Lee 450gr boolit to just shy of 2000fps from a 28" tube.

I've been firing the 44 with 54.5 gr. compressed 3fff and so far not leading the barrel ! the barrel is a 1:18 twist & 26'' long !
under 1500 fps I should be Ok!

Out of a rifle, in those cartridges and using BP how fast you can drive the bullet will be self limiting.

With 320gr bullets & 42 - 44gr will yield a Fps between 1100 - 1200 and stabilize accurately out to 500 meters

My 38-55 load with 45 grns and a 365 grn bullet is 1230 fps and good past 500yds. I normally look for 1150-1250 fps with the BP loads. Theb 45-90 with a 550 grn bullet at 1200 rocks rams at 500 yds

Data using Lyman #2 lead, 248 cast bullet (powder coated) with 20 gr AA5744 in a modern Win 94 38-55.
I have pushed this bullet to 1550 with 22 gr of AA5744 but like the previous poster said, accuracy fell off.

I believe this is my best load for the Win 94. I have some 2F BP loads with a 250 gr lead bullet, grease grooves (no PC) that I plan to chrono in the next couple of weeks.

With #457124 in soft lead, 80 grains FFg in a 24" twist 26" long barrel I get 1230FPS. No leading with my homemade loob. Going off of memory accuracy was under an inch at 50 yards, so call it 2" at a hundred, about as good as I could shoot with my old glasses.
That's caseless ammo (aka percussion).
Don't know if the chart below might be of interest, plotted out some black powder data so I could refer to the work of others.

You can definitely get very good accuracy over 1300 fps. The majority of Creedmoor shooters are at or over that speed. I wouldn't worry too much about max velocity, you can push them pretty hard as long as you are using good alloy and lube. My Borchardt shoots quite well with 84.5gr of powder which pushes a 535gr bullet to over 1330 fps. In my .45-110 I've pushed them a fair bit harder with fine results.

Thanks Chris I shot 30 times and pushed a dry patch twice down the bore after each 10 shot rounds......No Leading and the lube makes it to the muzzle.........She is doing good !!!!

That's pretty good. I've never tried shooting without fouling control. I think if I did I'd be hard pressed to get the patch down the bore

My last gong match I only clean between relays and I do use a blow tube that works well !!! I had no issues in the chamber ....

Isn't fouling control (blow tube) essentially for making it easier to clean afterwards? (moisten the spent powder)
The in-between swabs would glide easier, etc.?

I'm sure it plays a big roll !! I have had a problem every once in awhile of a carbon build up in the throat and ya got to work a bit to close the action
