    Consolidating same type powders

Let's say, from an 8lb jug, you're down to the last pound or so. While using that though, you've happened to pick up a few pounds of the SAME type powder (in 1lb containers). Would you feel ok consolidating and dumping it in the 8lb jug?
Yes, they would be different lot#'s and I would expect a bench rest shooter to say "H*ll NO".... but are there any "dangers" in doing so?
    Thanks

I do , when I get down to a little left in the 8 pounder I dump it in the new one and shake it up good . Same powder only - it's a new lot .

As you said, same powder only of course.

I've done it. I doubt you would notice a difference with most applications.

I do it with no problems but I don't shake it, just roll the jug end-over-end a few times to mix it.

I have, and I would; but I would also consider that some powders have been in production for many years and have changed somewhat over time, and if fact some have changed manufacturers. Some formerly made in the US are now made overseas. So I would be cognizant of that particular powder's history and age, and if any of those factors were in play I would keep them separate.

I believe that there are certain parameters that powder manufactures use for powders, and one lot of Unique won't be as "fast" as W231 and the next lot run something like Power Pistol. I'd be confident in saying there would be very little variation from lot to lot...

I'd think the lot to lot is pretty good too.
but I'd be leery of the new stuff from a new plant.
I wouldn't mix my new 'purple' international clays from Canada with the old stuff from Australia.
I have seen 'moved' powders have the same burn rate grain for grain but the density has changed, so I had to change my powder measures setting
[got some 2400 a few years back that was like that]

but I have dumped 48-64 lbs of red-dot together, mixed it up and re-jugged the new batch and shot it several times.

If still manufactured by same company.
    If not been enhanced.
    If lots match
    Then I might

Yes, do it all the time. Mix it well, check the powder drop from the measure (if loading on a progressive) and keep loading.

    I do as well......

I was going to do that with some 2400 (both older stock) and luckily I looked before I dumped because they were completely different in appearance and I do not know if one could get them to MINGLE consistently.

Just not sure I would be comfortable doing that.
I have never done so up to this point. Powder stays in its original container. Period.

If I was down to a pound or less of an 8 lb jug I might consider swapping it to a 1 lb empty container. Other than that the only thing powder belongs in is brass. So I would just use it up.

I try to just use mine up, but I'll combine the last bit of one jar with the next one in my powder hopper. I go the reverse with my 8lb jugs, i use them to fill 1lbers.

That being said i would be fine with what you suggested. I wouldn't mind consolidating a few of mine, back when the jugs were no where to be found but the 1lb's were on the shelf.

The only time I consolidate powders is when all that is left is a enough for just a few cartridges. Even then, I mix it thoroughly with the new batch. Always with an identical powder. Never with a different one.
