Are Auto Ordnance M1 Carbines well made and good shooters ?

A friend mentioned he might want to trade a used Auto Ordnance Carbine for one of my rifles he likes. Are these good replicas of the GI carbine and good shooters?

If anyone here owns one what are your impressions of this carbine?

Hi Sir,

The local shop bought a few when they came out. Sadly all of them seemed to have problems.

PLEASE look for reviews online for them, before you buy. I think there is a M-1 carbine board on line also.

As a carbine collector and shooter I can tell you that almost all of the modern reproductions of the carbine have problems. The AO is no exception. That is why they sell for a lot less than a few of the good ones like the old Plainfields and Ermas. Even the new Inlands have their share of problems, although they are trying to get those problems corrected.

Fulton's are probably the best of those currently produced. But for that money, I think I would buy a real GI carbine. Plenty of parts are still available and carbines are extremely easy to work on.

Are Fultons made from Israeli parts?


Some years back I passed up a deal on what appeared to be basically unused police dept M1 carbines. They looked nearly new and had large rack numbers on the butt. IIRC they were going for $350 each.

Can't remember who made them, either Plainfield or Iver Johnson most likely.

I believe the Fultons are made of 100% genuine U S Government made-for parts, which are additionally each meticulously spec'd. I understand they complement them with Krieger barrels, to purvey carbines of the highest quality. In just about every review on carbines I've read -- quite a few! -- Fulton always comes out heads and shoulders above the rest. Another top-shelf dealer, imho, is Orion7 on Long Island, New York (http://www.m1garand.com/), who purveys genuine G I carbines, graded vis their condition, and restored to functionally new condition.
I am the owner of an IAI M1 carbine copy, and a (Hialeah) Universal -- both, to put it mildly, JUNK! If I had it to re-do, I'd go for a genuine one! To buy one, yes, you are paying more than the clones -- but, in addition to the pleasure of owning and shooting these, they sell in short order at quite high prices, making your cost minimal if you choose to sell. (Wanna' buy one of mine? )
Just my 2 pennies on the subject...You ARE dealing with gas guns with lots of pressure with each shot, real close to your face...
