    Users of the LEE 4-20

I upgraded from the 10 lber to the 20. Bought the 20 brand new and love the extra capacity but the thing is a virtual buzz box. When its warming up and after its hot and running it buzzes something fierce probably 80% of the time. Is this normal with the larger coil? The 10 lber was quiet as a mouse

Mine is a buzzer too. It hushes when I tap it with the mallet.

Yup it's a nasty 60Hz buzz. Seems worse when the pot's cold at startup. I normally cast with a bluetooth radio connected to an mp3 player so never notice too much.

I've never really listened for a pattern, but mine will buzz loudly for a while, then quiets up to more of a hum, and then sometimes the buzz gets louder? I use a PID, so once it's up to temp, the PID on-off cycling makes the buzz more noticeable, even if it's a faint noise.

It doesn't seem to be anything to be concerned about. I keep a log of each casting session, I bought this Lee pot new in 2010, and have used it for over 300 casting sessions...still has the same internals.

Mine does the buzz. Never failed though, so I guess I'll live with it! +1 on the music. Put on some AC-DC ,Thunderstruck, and got after it! Tunes while casting? You betcha!

I have three different Lee pots. None of them buzz " fiercely " they may make a slight noise when heating up , an I can hear them cycle on, but nothing alarming. I have an old fluorescent light in the shop that buzzes much louder and gets on my nerves , I will remove the tube to shut it up .

But none of the pots do this.
I would call Lee and see what they advise.

Mine has always had a bit of a hum when the element runs. Nothing bad, about as loud as a space heater fan.

Yep.....Mine buzzes my ear like an ex-wife.

Only difference is mine is hooked up to a PID unit, so I figured that was the reason why.

It has been a few years since I plugged my 4-20 in, but I don't remember any buzzing when I used it.
