    new project

So I bought a m1916 Spanish Mauser off armslist. I over paid at 175 but I figured I could fixer up and make something out of it. Upon disassembling I found excessive rot in the wood. He had a box of cases he had shot and each one has a side that looks like lizard skin from the heavy pitting in the chamber. He said he "just cleaned the bore" and after I spent 30min cleaning I stopped , it's just that rotted inside. Sooooo I'm going to turn it into a .45acp. Ordered the kit. Ordered a Swedish m38 stock set from numric. Last night I was trying to get the barrel off and my old work bench broke lol. The first 2x6 ripped the lag bolts out . O well . Can't wate to get this project going

Sounds like fun. You might have to take a relief cut around the barrel to relieve the tension so you can loosen the barrel from the action. If the receiver is sound you probably have the beginnings of a fine rifle. (Be careful not to twist the receiver.) And you stand to learn a few things along the way.

I already used the dremmel to cut a grove as close as I could to the receiver. I just popped er in the freezer. Going to try it again in a few with a torch and warm the receiver quick hoping to get it to pop

No tips, but I think that you'll have fun with that conversion.

I just shot one of these conversions down in Arizona last fall with a former member here. Quite fun. Shooting at a little over 200 yards with it proved the concept behind "indirect artillery fire!"

Well it will still have the adjustable rear sight. I wonder if the rear sight will max out at 200

I never thought about doing this before. My father-in-law has (what I believe to be) a Spanish Mauser barreled action in his garage. Thing is rusted as all get out, and doesn't have a bolt. Perhaps I could get that and use it

Do not use heat on the receiver. Make sure your action wrench is a perfect tight fit. Then use a pipe wrench and cheater on that already junk barrel and it will POP free. Just did it recently with the same gun. Good luck! Best, Thomas.

Receiver and trigger/magwell all cleaned. 100yrs of crud is a pain to remove, wishing I had a sonic cleaner right now

Hinged floor plate with the release in the front of the trigger guard. Nice setup , too bad I won't be using it.

Got my m38 stock in, great shape but missing the brass disk on the side. I'm going make one and stamp the 45 acp yardage conversions on it. It's a shame I'm going to have to shorten the front for the shorter barrel. Just need my conversion kit and I can start fitting the wood.

Got my stock all fitted and cut down. Starting to fit the mag adapter. Seems they make the kit too large, better than too small. Some careful file work and it's in. Still have to fit the mag latch. It's tough to find time for all my projects lol

Between wars the US Army had a number of Springfield 1903 rifles converted to .45 ACP as short carbines.
    These were experimental only.
The .45 is a deadly beast from a handgun length barrel so its bound to be a stone killer from a carbine length barrel.
