Husqvarna Factory rifle

Went to an LGS yesterday and found this. The Lyman 57SME sight caught my attention, I've wanted that sight on a Springfield rifle for years, so picked it up for $440. It is extremely clean. I ran a patch through it and it came out very light gray. That never happens to me on a used gun. It is not worn in the bolt recess area where you would expect it, very smooth action and all it has on it is safe dings and the checkering is very well done and not worn at all, except for a bruise on the left grip area. Serial is 116430. The searching I've done says made between 1953-67. If anyone can give more specifics than I have found, which is quite thin, then I'd appreciate it.

Yes that is the site that first comes up. I forgot to say that it was made in 1950. I also meant that the particular model was made between 1953-67. Sorry I wasn't clearer. It is a very well made rifle and hope I have as good an experience with it as some of you.

Well that doesn't make any flippin sense now does it. That is what I came up with per their chart of all the models made. The serial is a separate chart and shows 1950. Any way it is a very nice rifle and I like it so the heck with it.

Husqvarna produces excellent rifles, both military & commercial - I had a Large Ring Mauser 98 exactly like yours in .30-06, and also a couple of the later Small Ring Mauser 98"'s they branded for S&W in the 1970's.

They were all well-made, and accurate to boot.

Looks like a model 640, small ring "strengthened action" I have have one in 8mm, shoots a treat with cast.

Thanks fellas. I'm working up jacketed loads to start but I will be going cast as soon as I can get some boolits made. I have an NOE 314299 and have them made up for other 30's(Krag, Lee Enfield, 7.7 Jap, 1892 Argentine Mauser) so I need to make and size for .310. I think I'm going to like it.

I have a later HVA action 30-06 and just love that rifle. Mine has a safety on the side of the receiver that moves front and back. I also used to own one like it in 257 weatherby. Once I really got into cast boolits that one lost my interest but it was still a fine rifle. Nice score on yours especially with the Lyman.

I have 2 or 3 Huskys from the 50s & have had several others. Well made, good looking, good rifles!

As others have mentioned and, I agree, Husky made good rifles. The only one I have is a Mod. 46 in 9.3 X 57 and for what it sold for and the way it performs I couldn't be happier. I expect your results with yours will be as satisfying as mine.

I did a little digging into Husquvarna and to my surprise they were the second oldest arms manufacturer in Europe until they got out of the arms business in 70's. Their offices are still on the same site where it was established back in the 1600's. I believe it is Beretta that is the oldest maker?

I believe you are rewarded with a 1x12 twist in the barrel so it should be a great cast boolit shooter. Beautiful piece.

I had the exact same rifle as a kid, it was chambered in .270 Win, i traded it for a nice shotgun. I stil regret doing it!

I got it out to the range on Sunday. Wind was howling so I just stuck to 50 yards. The best jacketed rounds were 168gr Nosler CC bullets and were 10 shots into a half dollar size group. I was very pleased. That promises a lot right there. The cast loads weren't as good but there is a lot of potential. I really like the Lyman sight on it too. Front sight is a nice gold bead that is easy to pick up. If I ever see another one in a different caliber I will not hesitate to buy it.
