    Fibre wad slug loads

    Hello all,

Anyone got any load data for Lee / Lyman loads using a fibre wad and a RTO crimp?

    Thanks in advance,

    Scrummy

Both slugs designed to be in a wad cup.

    That's a real pain.

I have an issue: The range I shoot on only allow's fibre wads or wads that stay with the slug.

Any ideas what I can do to reload whilst preferably not spending a fortune?

(Sorry for all the noob questions, new to this slug reloading game)

Hello, you could try this. Take Nobel Sport GTwads 27mm. Cut the cup to the shoulder of the lee slug, use a bicomponent glue UHU plus, and glue it to the base of the cup. They should stay on until target.

For the Lyman insted: take BP speader wad, cut the spreader sides and shorten it. Then glue the slug on it. It will not have the cup around, so it will be less accurate, but the wad will stay on.

If you are stuck using fiber wads you will be better off with a full bore slug like turbo1889 had moulds made for by Brooks.

I've tried using nitro card wads to seal over the powder then slugs in shotcups (cushion leg and gas seal cut off) and was amazed to see the flame melting of the shotcups. Nitro card wads do not seal well compared to plastic gas seals!

Best to try to find some old load data from before plastic shotcups ruled. Ballistic Products Inc. might be able to help you out with that. They do list some loads for birdshot with fiber wads but I haven't seen any slug specific load data and again, unless you want to roll paper tubes for Lyman or Lee wad slugs, best to go full bore slug or round ball... 0.735" round ball is a viable option and can give darn good performance out to 50+ yards. Lyman makes 0.735" RB mould sas a standard and there is currently a group buy going for Mihec 0.732" RB double cavity moulds.
