    Bullet size

Any ideas what size bullet to go with for a .45 saa with way to big chamber throats?
    barrel 451 or 452, chamber mouths 460.

ALWAYS size revolver bullets to fit the chamber throats, about 0.0005" to 0.0010" under chamber mouths is correct.

What year is your 45saa. Pre WW11 45 Colt ammo ran 454 to 455 size lead bullet. Best to slug your barrel also.

    .460 chamber throat; .460 bullet.
To paraphrase Ronald Reagan, the trouble with many shooting experts is not that they're ignorant; its just that they know so much that isn't so.

That raises the question of whether the brass will size the bullet too small. Enlarging the mold shouldn't be a problem. I'll just beagle it.

you have an odd problem there. Usually its the opposite (small chambers, big bore) Id probably size to a tad bits smaller then 460. Maybe 459 and hope you have a forcing cone that has a gradual approach and good alignment.

I have a Uberti with 4565" throats, I size to .456" and get excellent results with it, accurate, no leading, at least the throats were all even and I didn't have to touch it with any tooling other than pin gages.

I did make a custom expander for the Lee powder die, the rest of the standard 45 Colt die set worked fine.

Edit: I DID lightly touch the forcing cone with an 11 degree cutter before I ever shot it the first time, one look revealed it was simply cut too small. I love it when they don't remove too much metal, I can then fine tune to my liking..

Got a .22 .30 .32 .357 .38 .40 .41 .44 .45 .480 or .500 S&W cylinder that needs throats honed? 9mm, 10mm/40S&W, 45 ACP pistol barrel that won't "plunk" your handloads? 480 Ruger or 475 Linebaugh cylinder that needs the "step" reamed to 6° 30min chamfer? doug guy is right, he taught me how to redue my forcing cones and on my 44/40 it made a huge difference. the bullets come out of the 44/40 way over sized but it become a tackdriver with the new 11 degree forcing cone. the original from the factory was bad, even with gouges and pits in it. when doug guy speaks, i listen.
