In use mold storage

When I am working with a mold and have to take a break (for a few days or more), I hate having to oil it up and put it away. So I made this airtight container that holds a mold with handles installed. I place a desiccant pack in there when I seal it up.

This is a neat idea!! I asked a friend of mine that lives in the Dessert part of Utah what he does to protect his Steel molds? His response was NOTHING

must suck living in that much humidity but then again you have rain to grow things so maybe not such a bad trade off.

Darn water and molds ahh, sold all my items in the early 90's, too many to check on and too damp to store.

I live in the tropics with 100 % humidity almost year round. The best thing I found is the VCI gun storage bags. They are the only thing that really works with our corrosive volcanic air, and high humidity, as I have had failures on a Ruger no 1 and a stainless steel smith and wesson 686 with rig grease and cosmoline in a safe, which ended up pitting the receiver and frame in two months.(really) Also, found powdercoat is great for stopping oxidation on cast boolits. The gun works best in the high humidity. Best of luck

Liquid Wrench Dry Lubricant. Spray or coat all parts of mould and the cavities.
It doesn't contaminate, it doesn't have to be removed, in fact the first few bullets cast want to jump out of the mould. Protects from rust.....just try it once.

I just spray my molds with 3 in 1 oil and store them in a plastic bag. when I'm ready to cast again I hit them with break cleaner and they're ready to go

Lots of salt air around here.
I must try the Liquid Wrench Dry Lube.
Is it the same as the Garage Door Lube????
I store my molds in a tall ammo can, sprayed with PB Blaster, and sealed in a zip lock bag.

Thats a neat idea! I just give mine a squirt of whatever oil I use on my guns, wrap it in a shop rag and store it in a ammo can. A shot of brake cleaner and a quick scrubbing with a brush and its ready to cast with again.

Neat idea.
I have plastic containers.
I coat the molds in synthetic 2 cycle (bull plate lube) then put them in the container.
One per.
When I use them I just spray with brake cleaner.

I hadn't thought of all of this... must be the newb in me... I let it cool and store under a towel to keep dust and **** out of it... I guess i need to re-work my strategy here

When I'm done casting, I let the moulds cool off and stabilize overnight, then since wally world sometimes has sales on "RemOil" I have a few cans laying around and give them a good coat of RemOil. I have 20mm ammo cans that I store my moulds in, and after the RemOil, that's where they take their nap till next session. Take out the mould, brake cleaner spray and they are ready to go.

Nice idea . Does it work better than using Kroil on the mold when done do you think ?
