COWW value

So at work yesterday while checking the gaylord boxes for lead I found a few hundred pounds of clip on wheel weights. These are new old stock as they have never been installed. Nice and shiny. Good size also. If these are sold in wheel weight form what do you wise people of Cast Boolits think they would be worth per pound? Thanks Dave

85 cents.



(I don't want/need any, but COWW goes for about a buck a pound, and in my experience I get about 85% recovery from smelted COWW into ingot form, so that's where I get my .85 figure.)

$1 per pound is the price for clean COWW ingots. Scrap yards around here get around $.25 per pound if they buy them from you. If you're buying them from the scrap yards, the price is about $.70.

Back when scrap COWW were mostly Lead (few Zn or Fe), the top I'd pay is 60¢ lb.
I wouldn't buy any scrap COWW in MN (due to new laws) today.

Now what you have is a bit different, if these are ALL new and ALL Lead alloy.
You could probably figure losing about 10% weight to steel clips, maybe even less?
But it's sure would be foolish to spend as much as $1 lb, since that's about what if goes for ingotized.
so the answer is, if these are for you own use, what's your time, effort, and fuel worth to smelt them?
If you were going to sell them "in the raw"? I'd probably pay 70¢ delivered.

I'd say 70 cents sounds about right. I buy Isotopes for 85, and no loss from clips.

COWW that clean, a good $1 a pound. Don't let these guys low ball you. In ingot form cleaned and fluxed really well, anywhere for $1.50 to $2 a pound.

I would not pay more than $.50/Lb. They still have a lot of work (and fuel) into them before they can be used. You can buy WW ingots on the forum for $1/Lb.
