    best uses for IMR PB

I recently got a couple cans of Dupont PB and was curious what its best used for.
ive seen data for 1000fps loads in 40 S&W and use in 1oz and 1 /8 oz loads in 12 gauge

PB is useful in just about any pistol caliber. Go to Hodgdons data center on their website. They have lots calibers with PB data.

Back when it was available it was my favorite powder for the .45 Colt, .38 spec. & .45 ACP.

I can't figure out why it was discontinued.

I always heard it was one of,if not the most $$ to manufacture. Got almost a whole keg of it. My observation in handguns is it's a delight to shoot at target and mid range loads. Can get a little spikey near max.... seeing fired revolver cases go from dropping out at published mid range and then suddenly start "sticking" approaching max.

It's like hot sauce - "I put that **** in everything." If I could find it I'd buy it by the keg again.

PB is one of those powders that it's more difficult to find a pistol cartridge in which it WON'T work, than to find one in which it works well. I love it for low-velocity .38 Spl. and .45 ACP. I, too, wish I could find a keg of it for sale. SHOPDOG has it right, about it getting "spikey" in higher performance loads.

PB was what I used when I first started reloading about 10 years ago. Used it 9mm and bought as much of it as I could before they stopped making it. Then switched to Red Dot/Promo. Very similar flow through a measure, similar weights.
