What kind of alloy do you guys use for casting these NOE bullets?
Planning on getting either the 500 or 600 grs variant.

500 to 600 grns. Subsonic i would go soft and powdercoat
49% lead, 49% COWW 2% tin does not even begin to expand going thru 2 ft of sand and a 8" telephone pole

I shot some 50/50 Lino and pure lead 500 grain over 26 grains of IMR 4198 and it went through a 10 inch locus tree. It did leave a nice exit wound.

I seem to always buy the reloading dies and brass and then get the rifle.

If this was from an AR platform rifle, how well did it cycle?

Just shot my cheapo (Radical) AR build last night after polishing the chamber & bolt face, so umped-up that I wanna revive this thread.
Test fired some PC'd Lee 90346 (459-500-3R) & RCBS 457-300-FN; plated 300 FN Berrys & some factory (just for the brass) in front of RL7 using standard milspec lower, lancer mags plus one mod GI mag & they all went downrange. Ejections were between 3 & 4 o'clock except for the RCBS & the factory ones which are a tad over-gassed. Recoil wasn't that bad either.
All in all, this resurrected project was fun & cheap, well, except for some lost brass.
Got me some new-to-me molds to try: Lyman 457124 & 125 and Ideal 458483.

Do you folks recommend either something akin to #2 Alloy or even something like 16 or 20 to 1 Lead to tin for a lee 500gn 3r bullet. I plan on either being High sub sonic or somewhere around 1200 FPS similar to the old ARmy Trapdoor springfield load using Alox tumble lubed.

As and aside Sig556 perhaps a brass catcher for range use is in order. I use one but do get the occasional failure to eject because of it so is for range use and not hunting use for me

This old LEE 458-405HP still throws really nice boolits. Used many years for 45-70 Trapdoors. Im hard casting these now for SOCOM.
Still working on it, but so far excellent results. My approach has been to keep it simple. No gas check, ALOX lube.

I've got it up to 39gr H4198, haven't chronographed it yet. Pressure indicators look good, No lead fowling, no bore residue. I an very surprised there's almost no residue issues in the bolt carrier, chamber is cleaner than expected, and accuracy is good.

I was so impressed with look of this Lee 458-405HP for use in a SOCOM that I had Mountain Molds cut a 375 grain version of it. I even called Lee and a lady kindly said no, they stopped making HP molds and they weren't interested in making a custom one. So I started drawing one up with the MM design tool and just had to try it. It's easy to get along with and SR4759 works good accuracy wise.

I shoot that and a Accurate 46-305S with the bevel milled off.
