    A seasoned bore leads less than a bright bore.
    Tests run by the NRA around a century ago indicated that microscopic pitting captured globules of bullet lube that under pressure act like tiny ball bearing, increasing velocity and preventing lead from adhering to the bore metal.

    Multigunner, I believe that the seasoned bore relates to the old wrought iron forge welded barrels that had very low carbon in them. Not the modern types of steel.
