Accurate Powder lists .45-70 loads using the Lyman 535 grain lead bullet with a "start" load of 20.1 grains of 5744 and a "Max" of 22.4 grains. These are supposedly "trapdoor" level pressure loads so should be OK with your Sharps which is a stronger action.

You might want to look at the Lyman cast bullet book. They don't list the RCBS bullet, but the lyman 535 is listed along with a variety of powders including 5744.

Somewhere between 21 and 25 gr. is where you'll find a good load.
Long range rules, the rest drool.

I am very leary about duplex loads
Every thing I have read about duplex loads was unfavorable

the reason for my one duplex load is the time constraint, 11 shots in under 5 minutes with enough power to Knock full size steel Buffalos down, I have won the match several times so I think it must work OK.
