I have 650,700,and 750.Good information on annealing and case forming can be found on the British Militaria Forums Firearms forums. They deal with forming .577-.450 cases from 24 gauge brass shotgun cases.

I have to go with 650˚ 700˚ is on the high side. 750˚ is going to far.

The idea is to PARTIALLY anneal the case neck and shoulder if there is one. To get a true indication the Templac is applied to the INSIDE of the case. Generally, the lower the MAP the higher the temperature you want to achieve. For instance: 45-70 Starline brass being used with black powder in a BPCR rifle will perform best if heated to 750; Lake City Match 308 brass being used in a competition chambered bolt action rifle with a near minimum chamber and loaded for long range work will be adequately annealed at 650. The goal is to have minimum variability in neck tension and sufficient yield to seal against the chamber neck to confine all combustion gasses to the barrel ahead of the case head. Sooting on the case is a clear sign that something is wrong with your cases or your load. Using powder that is too slow can cause sooting problems and using too little powder to expand the brass can too.
