    Shotgun Slug moulds questions

Do .690 Round balls work in a 12 gauge?

Do hollow base Minie bullets work as 12 gauge slugs?
    Specifically, 685650 and 68569.

690 Round balls are supposed to work, I have not yet had the chance to try them even tho I did buy the mold.

I once tried to use a 58 cal mini ball (hollow base conical) in a 20 ga shotgun, it tumbled after just a few yards.

No, the .690 ball is not a good fit. There are many many threads discussing this in the casting for shotguns section. At most you want .680"
    .678" is an ideal size
Many have tried and it is better than nothing.
Mihec will be doing a .680 group buy. I would get in on that

So does that mean I need a .690 muzzle loader? Do they make them?

at 75 yds with a smooth bore iron sighted 11-87 I would get erratic groups; two shots would be touching and the third 7 inches away. I could hit a paper plate at 75 yds with 0.690's. With a rifled bbl I got much better / consistent accuracy.

Only tried Mini's in a 20 ga rifled and smooth bbl with poor results in the smooth bbl.

BrassMagnet.....if I were you I would just go into the Boolit exchange area and make requests. I use the Lyman 525gr all the time in a rifled barrel, smooth barrel and your all over the map it seems. I also used the 1oz LEE for a time but its been years since I've used those and can't remember how those went.

As far as round balls work....I honestly have no clue and more than likely never will use them. Those Lyman slugs do OK for me so I don't see any reason to even try something else..

Do a forum search .690 round ball or Lee .690 round ball and do some due diligence. You can easily decide for youself.
