Activ shotgun hulls

I have a few Activ 12 gauge and 16 gauge hulls that I would like to load and I am having trouble finding load data for the. Hodgdon's data sight does not list the Activ hulls and I have not been able to find any site that does have data. Anyone have data or a site that I have missed? Thanks, james

The best hulls ever IMO. Most of the old data calls for powders out of circulation for years. I found excellent results using Federal plastic hull data. To the drop both hulls held the same amount of water, which means interior dimensions the same.

That is what I use also, is Fed data when I load them, yes it is the best hulls to use and feed easy in the gun.

I have about three boxes of 12 gauge. 4 dram equivalent/1 1/2 oz of #4’s. Burly mans load. Yes, excellent hull.

What are you going to load, have a full bag of their T-42 wads used for heavy loads with Blue Dot. If you can use them just pay postage on a MFRB.

I will tell you that Longshot powder reacts with the old active wads that causes squibs every single time. Don’t know the chemical reaction just that it does.

Back in the 80s, Active hulls were just the thing for a tight magazine opening on the Ithaca 37 I had at that time.
AAs would stick sometimes….

I have a Ithaca 37 . It was my dad's I can shoot what ever I like in it , like you said the Active hulls is great in them, too bad there is more out there .

The load data that comes with the Lee slug mold has recipes with Activ hulls. But they call for the Activ TG30 wads as well.

You should be able to substitute a similar type of wad for straight walled hulls but the slug/petal fit to bore may be tight or loose. If loose a paper patch will fix it. If tight, soft lead slugs may still work. Apparently Federal wads are tougher than many others and seem to take tight fitting slugs/balls well. I haven't tried them because they are not available locally.

Also, BPI has a wad that is supposed to be tough and designed specifically for slug shooting:

They look like the old Win AA Red wad design but likely a tougher plastic.

I Picked Up A Few NOS Boxes of Activ Hulls with Wads a while back. They Load Super Easy. You Can Used Federal Load Data For These Hulls, They Have Plenty of Room for activities. I have The Original Load Data Pamphlets if Needed.

It would be useful to know the specific Federal hull you refer to. Is that the Gold Medal?

This got me thinking. Like yesterday. I had to grab a full box of Turkey load #4s in 3". 2 1/4 oz of shot. Just cause I dont hunt and have had a couple turkey load boxes for decades is no reason not to add to the collection of possible hunting stuff.

not sure if clear but I got a box of ten Activ rounds that seem to be well loved
