Rusty Homade Hollywood

Being turned off by the insanely high prices on eBay as of late, I don't follow the vintage presses much anymore. A fellow member here alerted me to this unusual press that is being offered.

I'm curious of y'all's thoughts and wondering if anyone has seen this done before as a Hollywood copy.

I doubt that it will bring the crazy money price tag of $650, but it may appeal to someone bad enough who likes working with rust and refurbishment.

If you look close and compare it with any of any of yours or my HW seniors, their's is not very much there that says Hollywood. Very poor quality casting all over with a base plate screwed on from the bottem, linkage held on by a screw?? I contacted the seller, and he says it looks like the steel tall boy with the front swaging rod without any markings being offered now, so it must be a Hollywood but he's not sure. Good try, but I don't think there are many people that would buy it.

I have never seen one like this and do not believe it is a Hollywood. However, some of the small parts do appear to be of Hollywood manufacture, w/ user-created parts added. Am willing to bet that no part says Hollywood.

For me at least, the Hollywoods are overpriced. I am not a collector, just a shooter. So for that amount of money I would buy RCBS, Redding or some other first class press and use the money left over for more bullets, powder, primers and other needs. I see nothing wrong with collecting and I do like to look at the older presses, I have and still own older presses. As rusted as that press appears to be, I wouldn't pay postage on it if given me free of charge. james

I don't think it's a Hollywood but I agree that some parts look like they came out of a HW press but the ram looks like if someone would have cut a hydraulic cylinder...
And to make things even worse the carriage is a single piece like in an aluminum HW Senior so taking it our to clean the ram could be a PITA.
If I'd be interested in buying this press I would never pay more than 100 bucks (and only because it's rare) but the fact that the press base is not a single casting and is bolted on with 4 small screws really puts me down.

Off topic... anyone saw that rusted CH champion that was sold on evil bay for $200 + $100 shipping? That press retails $330 new from CH4D!!!

Lubedude, do you have a item number for that press? I did a quick search and didn't find it.
It is interesting. Not homemade either. The design looks OK, though in real world use the leverage may be lacking to process three case at the same time.

It's a rusty pig and the seller has no history so that makes it worth a lot less than he thinks. Looks like most Hollywood presses on eBay, the seller has gold flakes in his eyes.
It is salvageable, so maybe, just maybe I can strike a reasonable deal with him.

I wish I had been able to get it. I have a couple others like it. Shop made in small numbers and not marked. The casting indicate serious foundry work, generally beyond the capabilities of the home shop.
But, thanks to Lubedude I have pictures for reference.

I looked at it yesterday the seller lives right down the hill from me. Really don't need another press I'll never use so I made an offer that he didn't take. Someone put an awful lot of work into it but like I said I don't need it and it is frozen but you should be able to free it up with some time.

I am thinking I will buy a junk press, add a Hollywood shell holder, and advertise it on Ebarf as being a ultra-rare, "one-of-a-kind" Hollywood press.

On a similar note, like the guy on eBay currently trying to pawn off a Model A for an original Universal San Diego. Fortunately all the collectors know better. His original price was like $1,150(?). After a few months he lowered to $799. Still a huge misrepresentation, downright lie.
