    Smile Made My first Rifle!

Hello all, Well I have finaly finished a rifle that I started back in September. No laughing Please or at least not too loud lol, I started out with verry little machining and woodworking knowledge and a Frank Dehaus book, it is not perfect by any means but I think it came out well. I do not like the color of the stock so I am going to strip it and start over (plain maple nothing fancy). I figure this was good practice because I plan on building a 45/70 G on onother Dehaus design. Oh by the way it was made from the Dehaus Chicopee CF design with a few modifications of my own. I have shot around 100 standard (factory pressure) rounds through it after the proof pressure rounds with no problems with the function or any change in chamber or action dimensions. I did all the load work and proofing with J word bullets but now will start on what I originally built it for wich was Black powder and Cast boolits. So what do you all think? bear in mind that this is a beginners first atempt at making a rifle from scratch.

Super neat!! I love it. I am really surprised no more people make this action because it is so simple and yet elegant in its own way. Using sensible cartridges this is the perfect gun. The whole family of 30-30 class are perfect for this gun.

Looks good. My long term goal is to build something like this.

Just love to see more builders on the forum! The more results like this that turn up then the more encouragement for those thinking about doing it but just not sure, a little nudge such as this just might get someone else started in the right direction, GOOD JOB!

I too want to put my "well done" into the mix. Very impressive. I like to see this type of work and I think this is the spark that might just get the fire going.

Very nice, I like it! I built one in 357 a few years ago, not too complicated just take a bit of time. I stuck with Frank's plans pretty well, but ended up having to change the hammer spring strut a little because of lite hammer strikes. Just glued a couple hardened steel pieces in, one on the end of the strut and one for it to push on on the hammer. Haven't had any misfires since then. Nice and simple actions, long but still somewhat elegant. Mine is very accurate, a lot more than I am! I know when I miss its all my fault!
