Mec 600 Reloader: Reloading Slug Dies

I recently bought 2 Mec 600 reloaders... one for 20ga and other for 12ga.

I want to start reloading slugs but both reloaders are missing some of their dies.

The slug dies appear to be different than the crimp dies whereby the slug dies round over and roll down the end of the hull, and the crimp dies are what we see most often where it creates a 6 or 8 point crimp at the end of the hull.

Where are you supposed to get the replacement slug/slugger dies? I already tried Mec's website and googling it, but not having any luck... mec's website will sell you the Mec 600 that comes with the slug dies but below it says that die sets are not available.

Do people just use the crimp die to reload slugs?

You need to call MEC and talk to their Techs, they are very good. I think they came out with a "slugger" press that makes deep roll crimps but I never heard of slug dies for a Mec 600. They can answer your questions and help you out.

Thanks everyone for the info and links to BallisticProducts.com I see the roll crimping die for doing slugs and will give them and Mec a call this coming week.

I also seen that Trapper9260 replied saying that the Mec 600 doesn't come with any roll crimping dies, and yes that's true the Mec 600 and Mec 600Jr Reloader will just come with the regular 6 or 8 point crimping dies.

However Mec does make the Mec 600 Slugger model and is the one I'm referring to.
    http://www.ballisticproducts.com/MEC...tinfo/1309213/
At Ballistic Products the descriptions say "MEC 600 Slugger has a three-step roll turn crimping system, which folds the plastic into the shell to look like a roll crimp." and another site added to it "No need for a vice, drill press, hand drill or spinners"
The following link is from BallisticProducts which will show that Mec 600 slugger doesn't make a roll crimp exactly like a regular roll crimping die will produce, however if you look at the picture the Mec 600 Slugger will make a similar roll crimp.

So do people just use the regular 6 and 8 point crimp dies to do their slugs?

If so, why do manufacture's go through the effort to make special dies to create the roll crimp?

Does the roll crimp have some important advantage over the regular 6 and 8 point crimp?

I use my mec junior to load Lee slugs in Win AA hulls using the fold crimp. I can get a few reloads from the hulls.

I just wonder if the hulls hulls can take a few roll crimps?

I'm loading the Lyman 525 grain "pellet style" slugs in once fired AA hulls, it uses a fold crimp like a standard shotshell. I can't comment on other styles of slugs, as I haven't found anything better. Other than factory bought, that is. I feel sure one of the experts in slug loading will help you shortly. Good luck.
I firmly believe that you should only get treated by how you act, not by who or what you are!!
