32 Colt Long Police Positive to 32 S&W

I have a 32 Colt Long Police Positive in excellent mechanical condition, but fair to good cosmetic. Has anyone ever reamed the cylinder so they could chamber the more common 32 S&W?

Sounds like a straight forward rechambering job. Leave the forwardmost portion of the chamber alone to act as positioning for boolit (standard chamber) as it exits cylinder. Then ream the rest of the chamber out to accept the larger cases. This should only require a standard chambering reamer. Check the diameter at the front of the reamer.

I don't know if the frames and cylinders are the same size, but I have a Pocket Positive in .32 Long Colt that I briefly considered rechambering to .32 S&W. I decided not to because the metal between the chambers is already thin, and would be only a few thousandths thick with the fatter S&W chambers.

The Pocket Positive is (much) smaller. I have a PPS in .32 S&W Long (from the factory). These also come in 32-20. I believe (do check it out) that the police positive and the police positive special are the same dimension wise except the PPS is longer in the frame and cylinder.

Should be easy enough to re-chamber. I had one once in 32LC I was considering doing that to but I found a cylinder & crane assembly in a parts box at a gun show that was already 32 S&W caliber. Dropped right in so I ended up with a gun that could shoot either one by swapping cylinders. Probably never be lucky enough to find one like that again so unless the gun was in extra fine (collectible) shape I would just get a chamber reamer and rework it.

Unless doing the rechambering work yourself, and not having to buy the reamer, using one you already have,
it may be less expensive just to buy a new .32 NP cylinder for $100 and fit it!

Thank you all. I was thinking of a new cylinder, but wasn't sure it would fit my frame. Guess there is only one way to see.

You can rent a reamer for less than 50$ but were it I i'd replace the cylinder
