    What do I have??

A while back I stopped at a garage sale and found this big weight. I bought it thinking I would really make a good buy if it was lead; if not I will use it as a compact tractor weight. I really think it must be the dreaded zinc as it is quite hard and from the wording on it. I'm hoping someone can tell me just what it is and what it's use was. Thanks. Emery

Yeah the "zink" and "elektro" would certainly remove all doubt that it is an anode. By the way, zinc melts at 787 degrees.

Emery, just how heavy do you think this thing is?. Know anyone who shoots cannons?. If so they will probably buy it as they use the dreaded zinc to cast cannonballs. Lighter than lead. Just a suggestion. Frank

Marko--what is an anode? Possibly that gizmo Mazo Kid has. Many folks seem to think so.

Frank, I'm just guessing, but would say it goes over 60#. And....I do have some small cannons, it would save on the WW and lead use for sure. Also have several buddies who shoot larger guns. Thanks. Emery

An anode is a sacrificial piece of metal used to stop galvnic reaction. They are used on many metal things, such as boat motors, metal fuel tanks, water heaters, power plants, etc. The anode gives up electrons to corrosive action, preventing the desired metal from corroding. Or something like that. DALE

    an anticathode

It might be unweildy but useful against a cathode ray emmitter (an insidious instrument used to scramble brains).

    Listen to dale -

Prolly from a ship, boat or some industrial application to stop corrosion
on something they care about a lot.

You had one in your home water heater, but most of them are long
gone and never replaced, which is why you eventually have to buy a new
    water heater.

If it was easy, anybody could do it.
