Going to make Dutch "erwtensoep" or split pee soup

Planning to make a dutch ( winter ) soup like my mother used to make .

its a split pee soup and found a wikepedia explenation for all...

main ingredients are pees and pork meat,on the side some bread, but a main dish originally.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pea_soup.

like to try this for the ones in ice ? or below freezing?

it takes two days to make it.

    Hans.

split pea soup has a place in northern america history. the metis, (french native) people lived off of it. they were given daily rations of split peas when they transported goods for a trader and traded for split peas with furs and things they made.

My mom used to make split or a soup with ham. I make it now but I add diced potatos too. Good stuff but it really loosens me up.

Ok , its interesting to see that a soup has many forms , which we know , in variations we are used to, by country.

I am preparing a text file for the ingredients in english on my laptop how i ( or we ) do that how i've learned , and some variations here nation wide.
stuff to eat on the side.

Slit pea is great with ham hocks. But I spit pee all the time, half on my boot!

Pea soup is very much associated with logging in Quebec, Ontario and the Maritimes. The fiddle tune known as the Woodchoppers' Breakdown in New England is known as Soupe Aux Pois Reel in Quebec. I once lived in a New England logging camp in which I was the only fellow who spoke English, and pea soup was served twice a day (lunch was a picnic in the woods except on Sunday). Everyone worked quite hard and was very happy for the work. Almost all those mills are closed now; the timber continues to grow but environmental interest groups grew faster.

I think I'd rather make mine with "peas" rather than "pees" ... just sayin' ...

My typing sucks too, Keyboard has the letters worn off and at times one doesn't register. I need to read what I type all the time but messed up my post anyway. I know darn well I hit the letters.
How to mark the keys again?

New USB keyboard is cheap, under $10... I would mail you one but postage would be what a new one runs at Walmart

Who's got a good "grandma" recipe? I've had it, like it, just never made it.

We like pea soup here too, carrots and onions yes, and you simply MUST use pork with a bone, it needs that collagen from the pork knuckle, and some country ham for the salty smoky flavor too doesn't hurt. Gf is making a Ciabatta and will have some manicotti tomorrow, but I bet I can wing a pot of pea soup before the ciabatta runs out!
