Next to Fred, guess I must be a 'dabbler'...only two (20#) pots, three lube/sizers and 40-some molds. And, I only wear a glove on my right (mallet) hand when casting 'cause I air-cool my boolits and I like to push the pile to the edge of my drop-pad without breaking my rhythm.

they do when they set the mallet down and just break the plate open.
I only wear one glove to cast with also, but it's just a cotton garden glove.
a tip:
wrapping tape around a hole in the glove does not make it better.
Real old time casters used molds with metal handles and would burn their purdy hands without gloves. Does 200+ molds and multiple keels put me in the dibble or dabble casting category?

I guess i dabble , i only cast 500 rds a month and i wear gloves
Dabbler.
I only have 5 different molds. 160gr .357, .36 round ball, Lyman 525 air gun pellet 12 gauge slug, Lyman's useless foster slug mold, and a Do-it slingshot pellet mold I use for #1 buck. The buckshot throws at .305 a little big for #1.
I free the buckshot from the sprue with side cutting pliers. I then tumble the **** out of them in a vibratory tumbler to knock off the flash and round them up. Twelve hours with no media makes them quite round and uniform.
I'm a Real Dabble Caster. Been casting off and on for 50 plus years. Still use some of the the molds dad taught me with. When I found this web sight, I found out how much I didn't know. Thank you to all who contribute to my continuing education. This site Rocks!
Just past a dabbler, but moving to "****, I think I fell down the rabbit hole, Alice!!!"

I guess I am a dabbler. I started out casting fly heads for my and dads fly tying jig for our fishing forays in the mid 1950's. I later graduated to casting for a .43 Spanish rolling block rifle that was almost impossible to find ammo for in the early 60's. I ended up casting for a .45 ACP revolver as well but was never real big into casting. I could buy most of my boolits locally cheaper than I could buy molds and lead. I do enjoy making boolits for the old rolling block though. I no longer fish since my fishing partner died(my dad). My hunting days are over also. Arthritis has about made a cripple out of me. james
tigweld, that is almost exactly my story, too! My Dad and I started casting for an old 1917 Colt in the early 60s. Later, after I came home from overseas, I had to cast in order to compete in IPSC and NRA High Power matches with little money and a growing young family. Then I found this site and realized just how much I DIDN'T know. This is now my favorite spot on the www. Semper Fi, Treetop

I thought real casters dipped the lead out of a old cast iron pot on a open wood flame and hand poured their bullets in a steel mold. Not all this fancy auto casting stuff.
Reloading to save money I am sure the saving is going to start soon
I could see where this was headed . gloves is not as much ,as eye protection in have a scare that proves it
Dabble. Only 23 molds with 2 more on the way from MP.
I wear gloves when smelting ingots, but rarely when casting, if I do when casting it will be a mechanic style, on one hand only.
Leather welding gloves and apron when pouring ingots
I guess I am probably a dabbler compared to most on the forum...I only cast about 5000, of all styles and calibers, per year...but, I do wear at least one glove...sometimes, I wear 2.
