Guys....go shoot your guns and have some fun.
1pt beeswax
1pt lanolin
1/2pt olive oil
1/2pt canola oil
I used to use beeswax softened with olive oil, but I wanted to use the lube for my cast .45acp as well.
This stuff works well on both black and smokeless powders.

I still use good old Crisco....cheap and it does the job.
I will/would, but I love making everything my own. I have not made my own lube, so I have to learn to do it and will use crisco when I run out.
I used bacon grease once at a shoot just to twist up a few folk.
I make up a sheep tallow, sweet oil, bees wax, coconut, mink oil mix. Not always in that order and put into 2 oz tins to sell at events where the public comes through. It can be used for bullet /patch lube cooking, seasoning a pan, leather, lips, hands even squeaky hinges.
Use to mix bees wax and petroleum jelly for chapped hands and lips. Stuff last forever so I toss a container in my hunting jackets so I always have a tube.
Now for range shooting I use water soluble CNC cutting/cooling fluid. No greasy patches to fool with nor slippery gun. It is non corrosive, cleans up with a wipe, & best of all IMO no gunk build up in the breech-bore.
Chapstick.

Did I ever mention that I hate to trim brass?
Never tried it yet, but I have a can of bag balm, like the dairy farmers use on cows udders, and I always thought that would make a good lube.

Being new to BP and having been warned that one should shy away from petroleum products in lubes, because it causes globs of nasty and hard to remove fouling.
I did a search because I have also seen petrolatum advised as a lube ingredient, which seemed to be in conflict in accepted wisdom.
I found the article in the provided link a great help and hope it is of some value in clarifying the "mysteries" of petroleum products used for ingredients in BP lubes.
should the provided link be against the rules, by all means remove it.

Bag balm is fine but contains water. When it contains water it will evaporate in time and leave you with a different recipe than originally produced. That's why we use anhydrous (without water) Lanolin.
Claude; That link is a good read
. Don't believe so ...Bag balm is fine but contains water. When it contains water it will evaporate in time and leave you with a different recipe than originally produced

The beef tallow I saved in the fridge started growing mold and the deer tallow I rendered is still sitting there fine. I have a tub of bacon grease I keep in there also, but I know that is cured. I use that for heat straightening wood arrow shafts.
So, I have maybe 3/4 a quart of deer tallow. I am looking to make some hard lube and some soft BP revolver lube and looking for anyone that has done the same and what you recommend for making it and recipes.
Clarification, I am aware I can buy Crisco, paraffin and other things. I am trying to work with stuff I could gather on my own, if I had too. It is the same way I do my archery stuff. I prefer to make it rather than buy it.
