Another Powder for Reduced 308 Loads ?

I just finished a 8 lb jug of IMR 4895 and started the last 8 lb jug I have loading 308 cast loads for my FAL ... 150 gr cast at 1900 FPS

I got to thinking the 4895 works good , but dose not go through the powder measure on the Dillon 550 as well as a ball powder


So my question is there a Ball powder or one of the Short Stick powders I can use for several of my rifle loads 308 , 7 MM Mauser , 8 MM Mauser , 303 Brit and 30-06 mostly
That will allow me to load reduced loads like 4895 dose ?

I am not real well informed on all the good powders for reduced loads .... I started using 4895 and haven't tried many other powders

Short cut powders which work for less than full charge loads in the calibers you mention, but that will still cycle a Garand or M1A are H322, IMR8208 and RL7.

The Lyman cast Bullet handbook (ed 3) shows loads for 150 grain cast using W748, 38.4 grains at 1767 fps. It also shows loads for IMR 4227, which is not a ball powder but has very small granules that meter well. You didn't say what cast bullet you are using-- but you might want to check out the handbook.

4198 i or h will work. I like 5744 but it does not meter the best either.

322 is real position sensitive and needs a filler to do it's best work, [but man it will shoot with a filler]
3031 is somewhat better at metering in the Dillon and is less sensitive to lower load levels.

accurate makes some good powders that meter well and do good in lower amounts.
2520-2230 and some others in that area.
I use 24.5grs of the 2230 in the 30-30 and the 308 with good results.

Accurate 2495 is small-grained, meters well and is a copy of H4895 in burning characteristics.

I couldn't get my M1A to cycle with 2400, but I guess it worked for some people.

I have not been able to get back on the site for a few days
I will be trying 2230 as I have a good amount of it , as the AR really likes it

Oh the bullet is the Lee standard grease grove version for the 7.62 x 39
GC'ed , sized to .309 and then powder coated

This afternoon I had a nasty headacke , so I took the GOOD meds and did the first sizing & GC'ing through a Lee style sizer

I am going to make a list of the other powders and try some in the 303 Brit
