    H4198 vs. IMR4198

I see a lot of people using IMR for cast loads, also data with IMR for cast loads.
    But no mention of H4198
    I find H4198 available but not IMR4198.
Can H4198 also be used ?
This is for my 30-30 with LEE 150 GC and Lyman 173 GC
    Failure is not an Option

H4198 can be used in place of IMR4198, but do not use the data for IMR4198. The Hodgdon powder web site list the following for both powders using a 150 gr. jacketed bullet in the 30-30. The max charge for H4198 is 24 gr. The max charge for IMR4198 is 23 gr. You can go to the Hodgdon web site and get load data for all the powders that Hodgdon supplies to reloaders.

if you are using h4198, you take it slow if you have imr4198 data. i took lyman's 48th ed and used h4198 for imr4198 in my 30-40 krag. mine is 25.5gr of h4198 over a 165gr(173gr) ranch dog. its well below the limit for imr4198(i believe its around 27.0gr?) just take it slow and look for primers cratering or flattening and such.

This is a 50 yd target with my H&R single shot break open in 30-30 Wim. First shot went to the extreme right (flier?); the other 4 shots landed in the center.
    My load:
    Lee 150gr FN
    22.0 gr H4198
    CCI-200 primers

I am not sure. I was retesting this load because it showed some tight groups at 50 that were very close to what you see here. This group is tighter by a good margin (about half the size of the other groups).

I love both. I use the h4198 in blackout and I use imr 4198 when I'm using 35 rem or 45-70
