Nice deer there Smoke and that was a nice gun to get him with. Now you know those apples in the dumpster had nothing to do with this ---right!.
Was sneeking thru the woods the otherday and a nice 8 point walk with in 50 ft of me. He never even new I was there. We have been culling the herd of odd antlers and leaving some big ones for breeding stock. Also I was doe hunting but really enjoy watching the big boys as they move around, they do some funny thing.

Nice deer and an interesting rifle. You know, there have been times when I planned and thought about things and struck out and times when things just happened, somehow seems more satisfying when it just happens.

What a great story and a happy ending.....thanks for sharing!

Nice deer sir. I too use a 357 magnum for deer. I use 158gr boolits at around 1750fps. It seems to me that I read somewhere that the 357mag has killed more than its fair share of bear and boar as well, and in handguns no less. The blackhawk has taken deer for me and the 77/357 is a true mountain/brush gun.

Congrats on the awesome buck! Got a mulie doe with my Rossi a couple weeks ago, mine's the 24" in .45 Colt. But I had to work for mine, 6 trips out there and when I finally got a shot it was at 250 yards. It's a miracle I hit her, let alone right through the heart.

250 yards. Good shootin! Wow!! I do that in practice with my Rossi 357, but in the field it's more difficult.

Thanks! I'm thrilled with the results, but at the same time kinda ashamed of even trying such a shot. But that was the only chance I'd had for a shot, time was running out on my tag, and all 8 does were staring straight at me. Wasn't going to be any sneaking closer to them. But the Rossi delivered! Elevation was a bit low, but the windage was dead on. Dang sights covered the doe completely up.

Oh yeah, Used a 255gr. Lee cast boolit pc'd with Smoke's powder! Don't ask me what color it was though, I mix 'em all up.

Really nice buck and good iron sight shooting. Looks like that deer was dead set on hanging around for dinner.
Great story and glad it worked out for you.

So, you didn't have to do pre season scouting, you didn't have to get up at 4 o clock in the morning, you didn't have to drive 60 miles, you didn't have to bundle up like the Michelin Man, you didn't have to walk back in a mile and half, you didn't have to drag or cart it out that far, you didn't have to you scents, calls, gps, study the weather or hunting pressure and ya got horns with some fine dinner plate cuisine, must be nice. congrats
May you hands be warmed on a frosty day.
