Chrony on the fritz and so need a little help Guesstimating velocity (7.7X58)

312X150 GB from long long ago.
    Sized 0.310"
    31 grains of 3031
    24" barrel

If others agree with my velocity estimate, will likely carry it for venison gathering.

In my case that would be typically 50 yards with a stretch to 75.

One place would offer up to 120yard shots, but then I would only take a neck shot.

your just over 2-K with that set-up.
I wouldn't hesitate to take that hunting.

that is actually real close to the load little girl used in her 7.65 argie to take her first deer.
it was the second fastest I have ever seen a deer drop.
the first was my nephew neck shooting a doe with the wifes 30-06, I blinked and missed it going down and thought he missed.

    Thanx runfiverun.

Case capacity of 303 Brit in case anyone is wondering.

I have been really pitiful about keeping notes since I am shooting here at the house and these apparently were a worked up load from last year.

NO information on paper or in my brain.

Will do a water jug impact test tomorrow.

Lyman 46th Edition did not yield any cast loads with IMR3031 but does list loads with Red Dot, 700X, PB, Unique, 2400 and IMR4227 with a 151gr #311466 sized to .312".
In the Arisaka a 150gr jacketed load of IMR3031 was listed from 42.0gr to 46.0gr.
With the British it lists a 150gr jacketed from 38.0gr to 42.0gr.

I am getting numbers a shade below 2000fps with that using Quickload but without an OAL it is hard to tell what you would get. Here is what I ran.

    7.7x58 Arisaka
.312 diameter 150gr lead bullet with .305 inside the case. (Lyman 150gr)
    31 gr of 3031
    OAL of 2.79

    I get a pressure of 15200 PSI and a velocity of 1920.

That has the flavor of approx. 2000 fps and plenty of venison getting coefficient. I would advise strongly that you have your spices and gravy ready before you step into the woods with this relic of the Emperor! I think that most WWII vets would be proud to see their descendants putting meat on an American table with the weapon of their once enemy. Best of luck!
