Great opening weekend for BP in TN

New GB NOE 502-500-SWC RG4 HB with 6 sets of pins to cast 6 different boolits arrived on Wednesday afternoon

    SATURDAY

In the neck down the spine and lodged just under far side skin. Retained weight 261.8g Weight about 150#

Used the 502-500 mould with 301 HB pin. Cast weight with 40:1 was 290g retained weight 261.8 Max diameter 0.941"

Shattered neck / spine 14 or so inch of bone spine from entrance hole (look at picture just under and at rear of mould) , top off one lung and then punched a 50 cent hole through the off side shoulder bone. Best guess was it stretched the skin out 10 to 12 inch before coming back to rest

Blood under skin of off side all the way to right ham

Three lead chips found in right ham that had traversed the gut cavity - it had punched a small hole and we washed it out with a hose just after gutting.

    Minimal lost meat

    SUNDAY

Weight 261# Big for around here and fat like range beef from beans & clover.
    sorry no pix was taken

385 spec 368 as cast 40:1 retained weight 344.0 Used medium HB pins

Maximum diameter across the 385g mushroom 0.814

Same load as the 301 on Saturday - 100g pyrodex,

Observation: Near shoulder bone completely fragged, top off both lungs, off side shoulder bone completely fragged and looked like only pushed out skin about 3" so it was spent.

The 385 shoulder shot was on purpose by a friend in hopes of recovering a heavier one. Would not have tried it if there was any idea of the amount of meat lost. That said it was an educational mistake.

    BTW the 301 & 385 shoot to same POA at 25 & 100 yd - go figure

Deer had it coming trying to steal a man's mold like that.
Paper targets aren't your friends. They won't lie for you and they don't care if your feelings get hurt.

Congratulations! I've seen plenty of pics of deer with a rifle on them, but yours is the first that I've seen with a mold! I'll have to start carrying my mold when I hunt

    Darn right!

Good deer and fast work, getting the mold and successfully hunting with it three days later.

The doo-gooders will try to outlaw our molds for being so dangerous.

Darn missed that. Posted 2 rambling threads under At the Range

One on the test shooting targets the day after I got the mold and the other akin to this.

Boiled it down took out the ramblings.

Just got done trying a friends Optima V2 that has been a problem child.

4 shots from 1" above the target with a clean barrel at 25 yd to top of bulls eye and it was dark!

Since my V2 shot the 301 & 385 to same POA at 25 & 100 yd am going to try his V2 in the morning.

BTW he has my V2 and punched a nice big doe at 75 yd just B4 dark with the 385. Doe just went FLOP shot straight through.

    These Keithesque 50s WORK

Final report on punched doe at 75 yd with the 502-500 RG using the 385 HB pins
Destroyed both lungs and obliterated the heart on the way through. Almost no lost meat

Friends V2 has an oversized BBL. Spec is 500 +/- .001. His is about 503. With 100 Prodex, at 25 yd the 502 shoot great at 100 yd not worth sour owl sh*t. Just as you would expect.

The LEE REAL 250 shoots POA at 25 & 100. First time ever it shot anything close to acceptable. Turned it from "use for a fence post driver" to "touch it and you will draw back a bloody stump". Shoots groups like a turn bolt.
