Being a Southerner, I grew up eating sweet potato pie. I was probably around 40 when I had my first taste of pumpkin pie (Shoney's). What do you Northerners think about sweet potato pie?

I'm a Southerner and don't want either.
PECAN PIE !!!
Yes, pecan pie is great. We put pecans on our sweet potato pies.
There's only 2 kinds of pie I like.... hot and cold.....
I am a northern and I like sweet potato pie best. I think it is a texture thing for me.
I would need to try both. Half a dozen of each should be enough to form a preliminary opinion.

I LIKE IKE
I am a Texan and grew up on Pumpkin pie. In my part of the world, as I was growing up, only Black people made and ate Sweet Potato pie. It was akin to eating possum. However, I now make and eat them both, and like them both.

New Jersey here, Sweet Potato Pie and Pecan Pie are the only pastries on our table at Thanksgiving.

Cushaw Pie. (striped winter squash )
Sweet Potato Pie.
Pumpkin Pie. Usually this is not made from true pumpkin , but from one of several varieties of squash. They are sweeter , less stringy and less watery than a true pumpkin.
I can honestly say I've never met a pie I didn't enjoy.

My favorite is my Sweetie Pie! She's the cook.
I like them both. Let's not forget about green tomato pie though.
The sooner I fall behind...the more time I have to catch up with
I'm gonna say both , with a glass of milk please .
I like em both. From what i hear, many brands of canned pumpkin are really sweet potato. Many folks probably wouldn't know the difference.

I like both equally as well.
There was a recent article that was being passed around that said that canned pumpkin was a type of squash. Butternut squash, I believe. There were subsequent articles that a pumpkin is a type of squash and as such, there is no hard and fast line to be able to differentiate the two. Definitely not sweet potato though.
I like them both, and many different winter squash make good pies. I like the butternut squash pie. Pecan pies are good but I like the sweet tater pie better.
Both are great, and old, well established southern staples, especially the sweet potato pie. For me, I tend to like the spices in pumplin pie the most, but find it VERY difficult to turn down either, even though neither is on my diet list. So sue me. With THAT kind of temptation, I defy ANYONE not to falter once in a while!
