How little BP lube for pistol cartridge in a revolver

I have used the BigLube bullets and black powder in .45 Colt in my revolvers with good success but want to move to a 230 gr and .45 Scofield brass to roughly duplicate the military ball load M 1875. I use the tallow-beeswax-pariffin homemade lube.

I wonder if the smaller lube grooves seen in molds throwing bullets of this weight will haul enough lube for a 7 1/2" barrel. I have a J.W.Cusey .45 255 gr mold with the two narrow lube grooves I might test with.

    Any one tried it?

Yes they will. If you can find them the Remington bulk 250 gr lead bullets work just fine.
Long range rules, the rest drool.

If you want to sneak in a little extra then dip the finished exposed bullets in melted bullet lube, like a 22LR.
I do that for my .455 Webley and it works like a treat.

Thanks for the reply. I also have a RCBS mold with two grooves to experiment with.

The rcbs 250 kt works just fine black, the key thing is use a good bp lube.
Long range rules, the rest drool.

If you were to switch to APP you would no longer need to worry about bullet lube.
    It's bullet, not "boolit"
