i would not mind a mold that would do that, also a 20 gauge one.

    Jeff Tanner to the rescue!
He cuts them to the nearest 1/1000" of your choise and they run just north of $35.

Yes, please. .678" would be perfect.
    Most excellent idea
Can Miha do a two cavity mold?

Since he does CNC i would guess no!
Lathe turning such a big cavity through the sprue hole would be like painting a 3 room apartment through the letterbox.

I would love a .735 with no big sprue like the lyman. No shot cup necessary and works in smoothbore and rifled gun. Lots of folks get great results with the full bore ball.

    A tough decision!

I like both 0.678" (0.680" close enough) and 0.735" though maybe 0.732" might be a bit better?

In any case, a "wad" ball and full bore ball would both be good and at least a two cavity mould.

If choosing for smoothbore I think I would go 0.678"/0.680" but for rifled gun I think 0.732"/0.735" would be good. I know 0.735" works well in my smoothbore and also in a Remington rifled barrel. I do find easier loading with the 0.678" though for the smoothbore and good accuracy.

    Food for thought.

At present not sure if I will have toy money but for now count me in for a two cavity or better mould of either sizeand we will see where this goes.

    You can get a Lyman .735" rb mold here for $74 (+ s & h) (https://www.trackofthewolf.com/List/Item.aspx/1203/1/LYMAN-735)

Lee makes a double cavity .665 round ball mold that I have been loading in 20 gauge brass hulls. As well as in buck and ball loads in 12 ga.

Have not had a chance to test yet, but they look good.

Both 0.678" and 0.735" are standard Lyman mould sizes and RCBS also makes 0.678" but they are single cavity iron moulds. A two cavity brass mould would be wonderful and Mihec would make that.

The Lyman leave a proud sprue as noted. Miha would be my first choice, but if he is unable to do it, Lee could do a SC at .678" but not .735"

    GhostHawk:

Re-reading I see you are saying "Lee makes a double cavity .665 round ball mold that I have been loading in 20 gauge brass hulls." 0.665" must either be a typo or you should not be shooting those through a nominal 0.615" bore!

That was my mistake, that 6 should be a 5, or .565. I see the numbers got jumpled up in my head again.

Good, typos are way less dangerous than loading mistakes! I doubt a 0.665" ball would chamber in a 20 ga. but maybe if you were using brass cartridges. Just wanted to be sure.

I'm a fan of RB's in shotguns. Just to toss more stuff in the game, I've had very good success with a .702 ball in a four petal wad, 1/4 inch cork wad over some Blue Dot. Finish it off with a fold crimp. Doesn't fall into the chamber and needs to be thumbed in to close the action. Accuracy is very good in a no choked gun. If I were to do it again, I'd have Jeff Tanner make a .700 ball just to make it friendlier to chamber. Using a four petal wad and a cork wad makes this a very easy shell to construct. I do have to trim the empty hull to accommodate the fold crimp.

I would be in for a .678" or even a full bore around .733" but the .678" makes the most sense.
