New Mihec mold for the 25/20's

    G' Day All
Down here in Tasmania we hunt wallaby mostly. They are a small Macropod (kangaroo family)and are hunted both during the day and also under permit with a spotlight. We get permits for brushtail possum as well, but they're not good tucker. Anyway I just bought a mold off Mihec for my 25/20's for hunting and it is hopefully speeding it's way across the world to me now and as the GB was on another forum I thought some of you may like to get his over run molds.
    Here it is

I'd have to see some numbers drawn on the mold.
but that will be making a mess of the little guy's.

It's already been made and on the MP Molds website so I thought I'd just give a heads up before they disappeared.

It's always bothered me that there are never any dimensions. Thankfully they've almost all worked. Dimensions would have prevented me from buying a 35cal RF mold that's to fat to chamber in an 1894C.

I just searched his website and don't see any molds listed for .257 cal. What is the as cast diameter of this mold?

It's on his home page and I had to message/email him. He reckons he's only got one third of his stock on the website, so when it's all on there I reckon I'll be broke.

You have me curious. Do you hunt wallaby seasonally or year around? A neighbor gave me a hide which I think is wallaby and it is on the back of my evening chair where it is very soft (nice). I the meat useable depending on what the animal was eating, of course.

Dimensions would be nice I agree....... Lube groove looks too deep in the picture IMHO.

Well - all I see is that it should cast at about .258 , depending upon the alloy used. Wish it had been done closer to .260. Could always send one over to Eric at Hollow point Mold Service. to have the drive bands enlarged. Anyone cast with one yet with a known alloy that can give an as cast diameter. Yes, I wish mold spec.'s were shown. Eutectic - Did you ever come up with a drawing for your "ideal" 25-20 WCF chamber dimensions? Sure would like to see it.

Season goes from first day of March to the last day in Febuary. It used to close for all of March for deer season but now we have so many they are hunted all year. I have them in my yard most nights and at the gun club which is 700yds from home we often shoot over the top of them or have to wait till they get off the range. If you shoot one there it's a instant 3 month ban. Trouble is the buggers will make a mess of your car if you hit one. They're nocturnal and are often on the road shoulders eating grass, one jump and they become a hood ornament. Me and my camp buddy shot 140+ in three hours with a 22lr one night.

Juddy, I've always wanted a martini in 25-20. I think it would be a perfect squirrel gun over here in Michigan. We eat those rodents and they can be quite good depending on how you cook them. I like to sit near a big oak tree and wait for them to come out. My grandpa always said that if you can kill a squirrel then you are a good enough hunter to kill a deer.
I was a dog on a short chain.
    Now there's no chain.

I've owned probably 20 different martini cadets ranging from 17 ackley hornet up to 357. Nicest one I had was a 218 bee with Tasmanian myrtle stocks heavy barrel and a 12 power weaver (old school model), but I sold it when I needed money for something I don't remember was now but still think about the gun.
    Juddy
Sorry some were 22lr so I guess that's smaller than the ackley's

I've got a barrel mounted on a low wall ( at the gunsmiths as we speak ) with a SAAMI spec chamber in it for testing with some reloads. Still waiting for him to do a bit of shooting. We can change the chamber if the SAAMI spec does not work out ( as in order a reamer and cut he barrel back to re-chamber - Plenty of barrel length to work with at this point ) - But need some idea as to what may be better if need be.

I got the plain base Juddy. I am working loads up, don't have a chronograph. 4.5grs of AP70 is making 22magnum look puny. I am loading for a single shot 25-20 I had reamed out to 256 win mag. JIM
