    mould for 32/40.

I picked up (well I bought it over the phone after checking it out previously, but a pile up on the highway prevented me from getting it on Friday) a 1914 vintage 1892 Win and want to gat a mould for it.

I will be shooting cowboy with it (but I have three other cowboy rifles, so it will not be mu first choice, unless it works out spectacularly) and also doing a bit of hunting and general target/plinking work.

I am considering getting a combo mould from CBE in Australia. Jim makes moulds with different boolits, or a round ball and boolit or whatever you fancy. I have been buying Lee moulds lately, but they don't make any suitable moulds. I was also thinking of getting a Lyman or RCBS.

Can't decide. What weights and shape do you guys use?

Mick, check out this thread in the Group Buy section: 8mm custom 6 cavity/ C326-175-FN. Might be just the ticket. Or the one I like for the .32 Win Spl is the RCBS 32-170-FN. What's the twist on your new gun? If it's 16 or close either of these would make a good boolit. sundog

I thought that you'd have to use lighter boolits.

Obviously these heavier boolits work ok. What has been your experience with them?

Mick..some years back, I rebarrelled a Marlin 336 to .32-40 as I wanted dto play with that caliber.

It shoots darn near any bullet that I put throught it. 32-170-FN is as good as any. The 321297 is also a good bullet and a tad heavier than the RCBS number.

    I have a 1-16 twist in it.

From my experience, the new brass must be old stock and tends to split pretty quick unless anealed. As a result, most of my shooting cases are made from .30/30 brass and although just a bit short, it shoots and holds up really well.

This is an easy modification. I expand with a .32 expander. FL resize in a .32-40 die and fireform with a cast load.

In loading, I picked up a .32 Special neck sizing die out of a junk box some years back and that neck sizes just fine and I've had no chambering troubles with reloads.

I normally use starting cast loads for the .30/30.

The .32-40 may be an oldie and it's not near as good as as the .32 Special, but it will pretty well hold it's own with the .30/30 with the heavier bullets.

If you're shooting cowboy, look for about a 115 grain PB bullet. I have a 23259 Lyman (sized to .321") that shoots really well (about 2" at 100 yards) with 10 grains of Unique. Should be just what you're looking for./beagle

    Red face Whoops, senior moment.

The rifle is a 32/20. I don't drink beer when I reload or shoot and it looks like I shouldn't drink it when I'm on the net. Last night I had a 2-3 of cans of light beer, shouldn't have made a difference and maybe it didn't, but the rifle is a 32-20!

Bugger, no wonder you were suggest heavy boolits. Lets start again.

    Talking Oh, OK, 32 WCF

My old '92 likes the 311 316. With my alloy they come out 118 grains ready to load.

Used with 11 or 12 gr. H 4227 or ~ 4.5 gr Unique in new Winchester brass. Not to date this loading, but I used WW 6 1/2 primers!

One of the funnest guns to shoot in my safe. Sometimes take the Colt "Army Special" out with it.
    Regards,
