I just picked up a new 300 Blackout upper for my AR last weekend. It has a free floated carbine length barrel. On monday, I made up a bunch of brass from mixed LC and commercial cases just to have a few rounds available til I could get a good batch put together. I loaded them with a mid range charge of IMR4227 and a 170 gr. Lapua recessed boattail bullet. My intention was to fire form the brass. I threw an old red dot scope on the upper and headed out to the range. I fired a few quick shots at 25 yards to get the scope registered then moved out to 50. After a few more quick rounds to make some minor adjustments, I moved the target to 100 yards. We all know that a red dot scope is NOT a precision target scope so I really didn't expect a whole lot; particularly since I was using mixed brass fire forming loads. Imagine my surprise when I went down to check my target and found a 1 1/2 inch 5 shot group! Now I'm really looking forward to working up an accuracy load. This should prove to be enjoyable. I can't wait to see what I can make it do with CBs too.
