exit, it was very nice to meet you at the Gun and Knife Show in JAX yesterday.
I just also happened to be on the phone in the afternoon with chuckbuster (Kevin) and he told me that you were buying his Ultimate Cannelure machine. You'll be very happy with that. I played a role in it's development, and was the starting point for it's creation. If you are able to come down to Port orange, as we discussed, I'll show you the cannelure machine in operation.
I love talking about swaged bullets, and always carry a sample box with me.

One of the other visitors to the show was one of the editors of CartridgeCollectors.org, and he's going to write a feature article on the subject. I'll be supplying him with additional details and samples when I am done with the show. I'm headed of for today's edition of the show, and hope to talk with you again soon.

Here's a pic of terminal damage. Holes are 2-3 times the size of my finger. So I would think bullet expanded as designed ..Bullet went completely through...broke 2 ribs and exited through shoulder blade..Click image for larger version.

ID:	176878 I'm going to chronograph these loads so I know exactly how fast bullet was going. My estimation is based on load data. D

    DukeInFlorida,
Great meeting you as well. Hopefully the show was a success. You make some fine looking bullets and I especially want to thank you for the time you spent with me talking about swaging. I would like to come down and see just how you do it and what I would need to get started. I will talk to BT as well. My shop space is filling up so the idea of Blackmon's BSSP press is of interest. RCE has a WH press in stock....Lee press with mods, lots of choices. Orville I will give you a call!
Uncle Dino, nice shot she made! Your bullet did its part and you made it for her first deer. Not sure it gets better than that.
Just Bill, there are dozens of cartridges that are accurate and sufficient for a 200yd deer rifle. I keep going back to the Max in the Encore/Contender because of the form factor. It is not fussy at all to load for, has minimal comparative recoil and drops game with authority. As I said it is a hoot to shoot and works well in the Southeast for anything from coyotes to big hogs.

    Exit,

Not sure what dies work with Blackmon's press. At the moment my dies only fit presses capable of using 7/8-14 threads.

BT, I think I may have missed the point about Blackmon's press possibly not using your dies. In no way am I What press would you recommend for a beginner swager without a suitable single stage press already owned? If PM works best for this discussion just let me know. Thanks

I agree that this is a very easy caliber to work up a load for..the barrel I have was also accurate with 357 mag..though accuracy did fall off a little with .38 specials..just a nice efficient and potent little cartridge. D

Exit, Blackmon's dies are based on the original SK dies. His pistol dies are basically truncated cone type, not saying he won't make others. I like his press and dies for what I shoot, however if you are going into the larger caliber projectiles I don't know what he makes.

These should also look familiar. Pushed them all the way into the die to get the .125 meplat where Dino was able to short stroke it just a little to get a slightly larger meplat.

Here I made some with both the RCE jackets and some scrap 223rem brass

update: 5 whitetails total have been harvested with this bullet to date..all with same result..Nice expansion with complete pass thru, even through bone. 3 never took a step. I would like to recover a bullet though. Pictured is a variation of the same bullet, with a lead point. D

Nice looking bullets. Nothing better than enjoying the outdoors with family and the added benefit of bringing home some meat.

Nice to see some activity on this post. The 357 Max is a great cartridge and can be loaded from mild to wild. The fall season is just around the corner. Here are a few of my 182gr JHP and JSP projectiles and 230gr JSP made using BT Sniper's swage dies and 9mm cases.

BT, any chance you would make a BT Simple in the .358, I have an itch to make a .357 max rimless AR, and a 200 grain or a little heavier from .223 cases could be the ticket for some sub sonic projectiles in an open tip BTX. Instead of a 300 Blackout suppressed, why not a .357 Max just for giggles.

I shoot a suppressed .357 Max Encore and it is pretty fun. I cast soft lead 300gr flat points I powdercoat and then point-form in BT Snipers .358 swage dies. I use a .45 suppressor and it is super quiet. It really flattens out on impact. I have not decided if VV Tin-Star or VV N350 is the right powder (I have a surplus of both). I also "bump up" 9mm 147 JHP to .358 for a lightweight super quiet plinker in 357 Max. But I was looking for some downrange thump with a heavy bullet. If you do decide to go heavy, I would recommend a fast-twist barrel for this project to ensure no baffel strikes.

An alternative .358 AR-platform round is the .358 SOCOM. It is commercial 458 SOCOM brass simply run into a .358 SOCOM forming die stocked by CH4D. I purchased a complete upper from Tromix Lead Delivery Systems and was off and running. I went in this direction because I was looking for a "plug and play" solution. I am not racing for the fastest round, but some members of the 458 SOCOM forum have pushed the 140gr FTX bullet over 3000fps (safely in an AR Platform). Now that you have planted the seed, I'm going to start exploring heavyweight .358 SOCOM suppressed.

A "BT Simple" in .358 makes a lot of sense. But I have found that Brian's .358 swage kit to be the most versitile and cost effective purchase of my limited collection.
