    Re-purposing Old Blunts

    Re-purposing Old Blunts
A while back Uncle Al gave me I a couple hundred .38 specials topped with 148 gr. lead wadcutters. That's the upside. The downsides are that I don't like the looks of these "blunts" and of course they don't feed in my Marlin 1894c.
But most importantly, since I've converted over to powder coating...
my firearms' rifling shall never again be kissed by naked lead.
The new upside is, I've decided to "re-top" 'em with powder coated 150 grain round noses.
    And here's how...

    - First we'll remove the old "blunts" using the kinetic bullet puller.

    - Whack, whack, whack and the bullet and powder release from the case into the puller.

    - Using a funnel we separate the bullet from the powder and replace the powder into the case.

Note: The cartridges were loaded with 2.6 grains of powder.

    - One at a time we place the "powdered" cases in the loading block.
    - Now they're ready to be re-topped with our new 150 grain poly jacketed bullets.
    - We flair the case mouth then press and crimp the new bullets in place.

    - Voilà! The new light load pastel beauties are ready for some fun plinkin'.

    - Of course we'll repurpose the old blunts into shinny new rainbow colored round noses.

There are so many calibers and bullet designs because there are so many different targets... the target is everything.

Some good looking boolits there and congratulations on re-purposing them.
Just an FYI, nowadays the word blunt has a totally new meaning. In today's language it is a hollowed out cigar that's then filled with pot.

That sure was a lot of whackin'. I wear a thick leather glove to absorb the shock and fortunately, I had a blunt to ease the pain.

Lol I would've just shot em all . Wadcutters are a pain to try and remove with an impact puller....

I do not understand. I would have just shot them (the wadcutters), and reloaded the casings. What am I missing here?

I chuckled when I read the topic because of this!

You California guys have a lot of time on your hands; don't think you gained much.
To paraphrase Ronald Reagan, the trouble with many shooting experts is not that they're ignorant; its just that they know so much that isn't so.

Termath your holding out like you start that is for sure. Lots of pictures and detail posting explaining what and how your doing it. I am sure a lot of new people have learned a few things and even some that been reloading for years.

As far as why he pulled the rounds instead of shooting them was stated in his post guess a few missed that. And as far as wasting time well think of it this way did he enjoy himself ? did it give him something to do when he had nothing going on such as a rainy day. That really matters little and no where in the post did I see a ? asking what everyone thought. When a person takes the time to take the pictures upload them to the computer and give the details to share with his reloading PC family the last thing needed is people telling him he wasted his time and what he should have done. Come on guys looks like trolling or baiting.
How long has it been since the last time you posted something that was helpful to the other members here or is it just been a post since you have a need to be heard.

I would have shot them but I also appreciate someone showing us their life and he obviously enjoyed himself bc I don't go into picture detail when doing things like he did...it's almost utilitarian anymore for me to reload but I'm glad he was tickled pink to do this and show us. One upside is he can melt these down into bullets he likes better instead

This is true, I mouthed off being lazy and didn't show appreciation for the detailed description and awesome pictures to accompany. my bad! Was not my intent, but the point stands.

    Nice job Termath
I melted down about 40lbs of .359" SWC lubed with mule snot to make the same boolit you did. I like your picks of your final product.

Since this photo I filled a 2.5gal pale of these little buggers mine are in mag brass instead of special.

    Keep up the great work

Yeah, oh that ol' mule snot. I had five boxes of .45 auto rims covered with the gunk that I "vise grip" pulled, re-topped and re-purposed. But 40 lbs! Dang! You've been a busy lil' cowboy, good for you. I've got half a dozen bottles of snot, that came with the Lee sizing dies, I need to put up on eBay for some uninitiated to buy.

Ya 40lbs sounds like a lot but it was under 2k boolits lol. When I get into the zone while casting I'll do several hours at once. Since the heat hit so early in Kansas this year I've not casted at all since May but now it's getting nicer. If all goes well next Saturday night I'll hit it again, my girlfriend needs some boolits for her 380. She loves the green PC so guess it will be green LOL.
