Don't turn down any price you can afford. Of course, look for cheap, but any lead in your inventory will be cheap when ya can't get any.
Gold once traded for $17. /oz, and it was common coinage.

My local 'small time' scraper guy, who does it part time, comes across some Lead and lead alloys once in a while. He likes to trade instead of sell...but values his stuff at about 60˘ per lb which is about double what he gets at a larger regional metal recycler.
Anyway, last time I got some, about 300 lbs of dimensional lead and 150 lbs of misc commercial bullets, fishing weights, Round balls, shot, and some metal rich dross (probably solder). I swapped some pistol ammo for the whole lot.

The scrap yards just do not want to mess with the general public buying lead. Liability may play a part ... or not. Definitely no law regarding the matter. I had the same story locally and when I called their main office, it was no problem to buy a galord box (about 2500 pounds) . I just told them that I used it to make custom alloys. One guy said, " We don't know that you would not make fishing weights with it" What a fruit cake!!
Anyway , long short... Its just a few simpletons blindly following the epa malarchy.

Here in NW Ohio the scrap yard sells lead at .24 cents a pound sounds like I'm getting a good deal around here

Around here in NM, the scrap yard sells anything that they have for usually about double what they're paying. A lot of times I can get a full 5 gal bucket of ww from a couple of tireshops directly for under $50.
