This weekend I shot a silhouette match and I had a chance to shoot some test loads Friday before the match and I loaded a box of hard bullets that where patched a halve thousands over bore diameter. I used 100% cotton cockle finished paper that I mostly use for serious shooting because it stays closer to the muzzle then 25% does. What I found is the patches only cut through the top wrap and I useda hard wad stack under the bullet to give it a more solid hit. The accuracy was just OK not what I like to see. On match day #1 I started to use them and they did not do well and I ended with a 16. The second day I went back with my 1/18 mix using the no lead solder and I finished with 26.
This tells me that if you want to use a hard alloy, you better think about a hard wad under the bullet and a bullet patched a thousand or more over bore. Probably closer to groove with a hard bullet.
Man I don't like testing loads at a match
