Let's separate the Boolits from the BB's.

Let's separate the Boolits from the BB's.
First we'll punch-a-bunch of 1/4" holes in the bottom of a paper bowl.
Note: We're using paper bowls for this technique because powder coating paint doesn't stick to paper.
Now we'll shake-rattle-and-roll our boolits as usual.
After the boolits are sufficiently coated we dump 'em in the holey-bowl.
Note: We've got a second bowl, without holes, underneath the first bowl.
Now we gently roll around our boolit-bb-powder mix until all the powder and bb's are in the bottom bowl.
Note: As a bonus feature of this method, when we're separating the "mix" the extra powder is rolled
away from the boolits and we get no lumps, no bumps... just a creamy smooth coating.
    Like so!
Simply place your boolits on the cookie sheet and bake.
Note: We prefer to use bent tweezers to stand up our boolits. But hey, you can dump 'n' pile if you'd like.
Voilà! A bowl of 9mm green peas.

Thanks, that's what comes from being born oldest-of-eight. Besides, show 'n tell is almost as fun as shootin' shell.

''Shootin shell'' that's something I recall from my old Mattel rifle days along with ''greenie stickum caps''. And hiden in a field of broom sage playin army. Until a new man in the neighborhood walked out on his back porch and started popping off shots at us with a blank firing pistol. We all survived and the new man became instantly popular for scarin the u know what outta us and showin us his pistol with a horizontal magazine.

Pre American involvment in Vietnam days......1950's. The man would probably be prosecuted today and we kids would have been offered counseling. Funny how two words can start an old man on a journey back ''memory lane'' to a far better place in time.

Except we weren't powder coatin boolits back then.

Hell yeah, I had the "Fanner Fifty" with "Shootin' Shells" using "Greenie Stickum Caps." And for Christmas I received the Mattel Shootin Shell Buckle Gun with the "secret trigger." Fifty-nine years later I've "graduated" to the Marlin 1894c and a Ruger Vaquero. Now a days kids don't get toy guns because they will encourage violent behavior. So instead the kids are mesmerized by video games like "Grand Theft Auto", "The Walking Dead" and "Battlefield: Hardline!" Oops! You're right... it's easy to get started.

Well, after a trip to the 99 cent store for some bowls I find that this works. I, however, am not a member of the rich upper class like the folks in Team Termath so I used a steel .223 case for a punch. No high end punch for this boy!

I wished I had. My father-in-law made me a pair back in '82 and I've been using them for reloading ever since. He was quite a skilled woodworker and has gone to the "big woodshop in the sky" but I think of that ol' man every time I'm reloadin'. Thanx for noticing.

Onliest thing I do different is, I have a 1/2" hardware cloth mesh UNDER the tinfoil on the cooking sheet which makes a nice grid for setting out the boolits to bake.

MY 'collander' is just another Parkay marg #5 bowl with the 25-5/16" dia. holes punched in the bottom. OK, so that makes a three-bowl (1-S&B, 1-'collander', 1-dump/recovery) set for every color I PC but.....I use a lot of marg in a year and I'm not short of 'free' bowls. Just have to be sure to wash them out well with 'Dawn' detergent and leave no oils inside.

Great ideas in this thread that I will shamelessly add to my beginner technique. Thanks!

I didn't even notice until someone else mentioned it. That is indeed a work of art.

considering gluing two bowls together for strength as most of mine are .45 caliber in nature.

also wondering if I should put some kind of stand-off for the top bowl so the powder and BBs can fit below the top bowl

    thought?

Thank you for this. Picking through the bbs gets very tedious and this fits my budget too!

You're right about those .45 slugs being rough on the paper bowls. After tumbling a little more than 500, 230 grainers I had to punch out a new bowl. I saw that Dutchninja uses a plastic straining bowl... check it out.
