    Family/Birthday get together

My parents (who have been married since 1949), share August as a birthday month. My Dad's health has been going down for a few months, but yesterday he was in great spirits and looking good. My Brother's family drove in from Detroit (and New York) .....My daughter and I drove up from southern MN. So We had a rare family get together yesterday. It's been about a decade since we all got together.

Times like that are priceless. Glad it all worked out and everyone was able to get together. I'm very fortunate to have all my family within 2 hours of where I live.

Very Neat JonB. Great to get together as a family. A marriage since 1949 is worth talking about. Let's see, that would be 67 years. WOW! Congratulations to them. I remember when Paul Harvey used to have a segment on his news casts of longer than usual marriages. He most times would say after one like your folks.."Their not all slip knots..Paul Harvey..Good Day!" I do miss his news casts.

Yeah, I like to see some positive posts in 'our town' once in a while. So many times the posts are about our current problems (I know that what I usually post about in this section). Yesterday was a great day for me and my family for many reasons, besides the obvious. I just wanted to share. I'm glad I brought the camera, I tend to forget to bring the camera many times and even when I do, I forget to take the time for a few photos. I got about 10 photos that turned out as spectacular as the one I posted above.
    thanks for the nice comments.

What a great looking couple! I'm sure it really made their day to have everybody together and may God Bless Them! Thanks for sharing with us . . nice to see a family be able to gather and sped time together and honor their parents. My Dad's been gone 21 years and my mother 11 years . .. I miss them everyday. Treasure the time you have together and make the effort to see them when you can . . . you'll never regret it. Thanks for sharing something so special.

Sometimes, you can see the goodness, pride and simple graciousness in people's eyes, and that photo is one of those types. And those times are indeed precious, and will remain some of our most precious memories over time. We just had our annual family reunion, and there were only about 25 in attendance, IIRC. My cousin is the genealogist in the family, and always brings and shares her many notebooks filled with family facts and old family photos. One's roots really DO matter, and so many of us don't take them seriously! Family get-togethers like this help us keep the traditions and principles we've been raised by alive and appreciated, and family members even moreso.

Ever thought about making it an annual thing?

we use to have an annual reunion on my paternal grandmother's side, my cousin organised it. She'd use to get 20 to 40 people, but the last few years were poor attendance, so she gave it up after doing it for about 20 years. My brother may have came to one of those.

Wednesday's get together was just for my folks and my brother and his family. It's tough for my Brother to get to Minnesota and it's tough to get my folks to the next town, let alone Detroit.

67 is impressive! Sounds like a good time.

I just got back from a 3500 mile road trip with the family; four young kids in a minivan. It was a long trip I wouldn't want to repeat any time soon, but my folks were celebrating their 50th. We also went to a big family reunion while we were there; heard some family history I didn't know and met some distant cousins I'd never met before.
